Anton worked at the Taylor and Burke grain elevator in Milligan. He was later employed by Victor Laun and Company, general merchandiser, and eventually went into business with his brother-in-law, founding the firm of Hamouz and Stech. Anton was an early user of new technology. He installed a telephone between his store and home in June, 1900. In 1910, he dug a basement under his home in order to intall a light plant for electricity. He was the fifth person in Milligan to own a car, buying one in 1913. He was active in Civic events, serving as county supervisor for Glengary Township for several terms. He was also a member of the Sokol Society, the Knights of Columbus, and the Catholic Workmen. Frank attended country school District #80, half a mile east of their farm. His education was considered complete when he had finished six books. He and a teacher were caught outside in the blizzard of January, 1888. With the help of a compass, they were finally able to find a fence and their way home. Frank farmed his entire life, and they lived on the same farm for almost 50 years. (Milligan, p 285).

He was baptized Hugo Anton Hamouz. After graduating from Milligan High School in 1922, he first worked for a garage. In 1929, he left for the State of Washington. He later moved to San Francisco, where he repaired automobiles as a partner in a garage. In 1942, he joined the Air Force. He was stationed in the African and Italian Theaters, in the ground maintenance division. After his discharge in 1946, he returned to California and was employed by United Airlines. Anton missed his friends and family in Nebraska, and spent most of his vacation time in Milligan. (Milligan, pp 283-284).

James was called "Gumbo," a nickname he acquired during this school years. (Milligan, p 286).

A 1928 graduate of Milligan Public School, he began farming near Milligan. After his marriage, he and Helen moved to a farm west of Milligan, on Section 11, Glengary Township. This farm was purchased by Lew's grandparents, Vaclav and Anna (Sopr) KOCA from the Chicago Burlington and Omaha Railroad. Lew was interested and active in civic and community activities. He was a charter member of the Milligan Volunteer Fire Department, on the Glengary Township Board, a member of the Milligan Board of Education and on the Fillmore County Redistricting Committee. A Milligan native, he graduated with the class of 1919 from High School in Milligan. He attended the University of Nebraska two years. Edward was employed at the James Bors Garage as a Mechanic for many years. After the passing of James Bors in 1943, Edward went into partnership with James Bors's sons-in-law; Deryl Hillis and Charles Baer, being in the Ford dealership. The partnership dissolved in 1956 and Edward purchased the Slezak Garage building, where he continued in the Garage business, known as Swede's Motor Service, until his retirement in 1967. Frank lived and farmed all of his life on his family homestead in Saline County, except for the three years he served in the military during World War II. He was a glider mechanic in the Air Corps, stationed in Egypt, Sicily, North Africa, England and France. He received the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Ribbon, European Theatre Ribbon with nine battle stars, and a distinguished Unit Badge. He was discharged at the rank of Sergeant. Frank served on the Milligan Farmers Co-op board for more than 18 years, and served as secretary-treasurer of this board. (Milligan, p 286).

A 1961 graduate of Milligan High School, Darrel received an Associate Degree in Auto Mechanics from Southeast Community College. He worked for B&B Chevrolet Auto Supply in Friend for 24 years. He also farmed part-time in Glengary and Liberty Township after the death of his father. An excellent mechanic, he also loved the outdoors and the peace and quiet of tilling the fields. Myron graduated from Milligan in 1965, after which he completed a training course in meat cutting at the National School of Meat Cutting in Toledo, Ohio. Upon his return to the Milligan community, he opened Milligan Locker and Meats with his parents until late 1970. Closing the locker, he moved to Lincoln where he was employed by Harold's Jack and Jill in Hickman, Nebraska. (Milligan, p 288).

James is mentally retarded. He lived at home with his parents until 1980, at which time he became a client at the Region V Mental Retardation Services in Fairbury, Nebraska. There he is employed at a sheltered workshop. His parents visit weekly, and they all eat supper together. (Milligan, p 287).

Darlene Jacobsen, age 83, died at her home in Lincoln with daughter Susan and granddaughter Amber at her bedside on Tuesday, August 30, 2011. She was born August 29, 1928, on a farm near Milligan, Fillmore County to the late William and Emma Koca. Darlene was retired from Lincoln Public Schools. She started teaching school in a one-room school house near Milligan in the mid 1940's. She and her husband, Warren owned and operated Woodlawn Station and Cafe near the Lincoln Air Base until the Interstate was built. The last years before she retired, she worked at Park Junior High as a para.

Survivors: Son and wife, Roger and Lynda Jacobsen, Geneva; daughter Susan, Lincoln; Grandchildren, Amber, Hannah and Marlie of Lincoln, Will and Amanda Jacobsen of Seward, Tim and Carla Jacobsen of Omaha, and Matt and Dorothea Jacobsen of Lincoln; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Norma Jean Marquardt and Verlyn Koca of Lincoln. She was preceded in death by her husband Warren and son Ronald.

A graveside service will be held Friday, September 9th. at 4 p.m. at Wyuka, with Pastor Kevin Pringle from One80 Church officiating. Use Vine Street entrance. During her last days, family members would go through her keepsakes to keep her alert, they came across a music card that played the tune, "Roll out the Barrel", an old Czech song that she and her children would send back and forth kidding each other that they don't have to spend money on a new card every year. When it was handed to her, she opened it and as it began playing, she began to sing along with it. It was recorded. At the end days, when she was unable to talk, when it was played back to her, when you didn't think she was coherent in any way, she smiled when hearing it....over and over.

When told she will be missed, her reply was "don't cry, I'll see you in heaven".

Norma Jean Marquart, 78, of Lincoln, passed away Dec. 7, 2014. Born Nov. 17, 1936 in Milligan to William and Emma (Kucera) Koca. Worked for Pfizer for 28 years (1972-2000). Norma loved traveling, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.

Family members include her daughter and son-in-law, Barb and Rusty Steiger and grandsons, Cory and Ethan Steiger, all of Lincoln. Preceded in death by parents; sister, Darlene Jacobsen; and brother, Verlyn Koca.

John James Kucera, of Herriman, Utah, passed away on May 10, 2015 at the age of 78. He was born on April 5, 1937 in Fillmore County, Nebraska to John J. Kucera and Alice M. (Svec) Kucera. He married Elaine Sharon Ackland on November 22, 1961 at Saint Mary's Cathedral in Lincoln. John served four years in the U.S. Navy and graduated from the University of Nebraska with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering in 1962. He retired from L-3 Communications in Salt Lake City in 1999. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Parish in Copperton, Utah for many years, where he served as an usher, member of the parish council, and as parish administrator for four years.

John was preceded in death by his parents, son Richard, and sisters Marilyn Zank and Joanne Vasina of Lincoln. He is survived by wife Elaine, sons David (Leslie Robinson) of Del Mar, Calif., James Kucera of Murray, Utah, and William Kucera of Herriman, grandson Matthew Kucera of Del Mar, and granddaughters Alyssa Kucera of Del Mar and Erica Webb of West Jordan, Utah.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, at Immaculate Conception Parish in Copperton, Utah, with a viewing at the church one hour prior to services. A private inurnment will be held at Murray City Cemetery, Murray, Utah. Please visit, www.goffmortuary.com
