    JULY

    Nine local Boy Scouts went on a 10-day summer camp near Jacksonville, Texas. They were:
    Tom Blount, Hampton Downs, W. H. Fussell, Morgan Harris, Floyd Lucker, Miller Mathews, Charles McMillian and Harold Taylor. These same boys, plus seven more--George Ramsey, Joe Bickley, Philip Cockerham, Wyatt C. Teel, Lawrence Rulfs, Herbert Payne and Luther Morris--had a party at Bland Lake the week before.

    George W. Ramsey

    George W. Ramsey, 83, of San Augustine died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997 at Medical Center Hospital in Nacogdoches.

    Ramsey was born Oct. 8, 1914, in San Augustine County as a son of the late Judge William C. Ramsey and Emma Ramsey and served as a master sergeant in the U. S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was a retired postmaster with 24 years service. He served 17 years on San Augustine Independent School District's board of trustees and was a member of Worod of Life Church in Lufkin.

    Survivors: wife, Margaret Ramsey of San Augustine, two sons, Ben S. Ramsey of Houston and William C. Ramsey of San Augustine; two daughters, Susann Lohr of Hujble and Dorothy Shoemaker of Midland; two sisters, Lurette Mitchell of San Augustine and Letitia Stine of Henrietta; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

    Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24, at the Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel in San Augustine with Billy Jackson officiating. Interment followed at Liberty Hill Cemetery in San Augustine County.

    Arrangements were handled by Wyman Roberts Funeral Directors in San Augustine.
