When he became ill he went to Houston for Medical care, but was turned away because he was no longer a resident. He was later hospitalized with a bloated stomach.

Caryn Getsinger reports that, according to her sister Pauline, Drusilla was "slow in school," Pauline reported, however, that Drusilla "did beautiful hand work" and was a very good cook. Drusilla gave birth to a baby girl named Norma in 1938, but apparently refused to sign the adoption papers. She may have been forced to give up the baby anyway.

He was married to an Ethel Brown(?), who left her baby with Pauline as she couldn't raise the child herself. The child, Betty Jane was raised by her Uncle James Johnson in West Park, New York.
