    Gerald Dwain Tatom

    Gerald Dwain Tatom, 82, of Silsbee, died Sunday Nov. 3, 2013.

    Tatom, a native of Bronson, was a longtime resident of the Silsbee area. He was retired as a process operator from Texaco Refineries. He also served in the U. S. Army and was a Staff Sergeant in the Korean War.

    His survivors include his wife of 59 years, Lafay Tatom; sons, Jerry Tatom, Kenneth Tatom, Keith Tatom, and Christopher Tatom; brother Cecil Tatom; sistsrs, Nell Butler and Kathy Hutto; six grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

    Funeral services were held Wednesdaym Nov. 6, at Farmer Funeral Home Chapel in Silsbee. Interment followed at Farmer Memorial Cemetery in Silsbee.

    Opal Brown, 72, of Pineland passed away at home January 13, 2006, after a brief illness. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Brenda LEE of Pineland, Connie BENNETT and Joe of Pineland, Yvonne HAWKINS and Glen of Many, Jack "Pete" LEE and Ramona of Nacogdoches, Steven LEE and Sheri of Pineland, and Alan BROWN and Patsy of Pensacola, Florida. She is also survived by her siblings and their spouses: Gerald TATOM and Faye of Silsbee, Cecil TATOM and Ann of Pineland, Nell BUTLER and Roy of Hemphill, and Kathy HUTTO and E.H. of Palacios. She will be remembered and missed by her grandchildren: Cecil TATOM; Rebecca BENNETT; April McCAULEY; Jarrod, Jaime and Jessi LEE; Brittany DOWDEN; Vonnie, Mary and LeeAnn HAWKINS; Craig and Chris BROWN; and Monica HINCHEE. She also had one great granddaughter, Brietta LEE. Funeral services will be held Sunday Jan. 15, 2006 at 2:00 pm at Starr Funeral Home Chapel in Hemphill, Texas with Bro. Wayne Alford officiating. Interment will follow at Plainview Cemetery. Pallbearers are Cecil "Guru" Tatom, Jarrod Lee, Carlos Cruz, Rhett Hutto, Charlie Hutto and Christopher Clark.     Joyce Nell Tatom Butler "Nell", 79, a lifelong resident of Sabine County, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2017 in Hemphill, Texas. Mrs. Butler was born September 19, 1937 in Plainview Community to Claud and Marie McGown Tatom.

    Mrs. Butler worked as a business owner and homemaker. She enjoyed her kids, grandkids, great grandkids and a great-great grandkid.

    She is survived by her sons; Roy E. Butler, Jr. and wife Nancy, of Hemphill, Texas, Don Butler and wife, Sandra, of Hemphill; daughters, Margaret Greene of Hemphill, Cindy Bennett and husband, Jim, of Bronson; sister, Kathy Hutto and husband E. H., of Palacios; Grandkids, Kevin Butler, Jason Butler, Amy Greene, Christy Childress, James Greene, Tommy Greene, Josh Bennett, Courtney Brittain, Nicole Corley, Kenny Butler, Holly Butler, and Mikey Butler; Great Grandkids; Hannah Butler, Hailey Butler, Carly Butler, Kaylee Butler, Brooksie Butler, Rhett Butler, William Greene, Abby Childress, Vivian Childress, Jacob Greene, Zachery Greene, Kallie Greene, Colby Greene, Tamsyn Greene, T.J. Greene, Ethan Bennett, Emma Bennett, Baylee Bennett, Caycen Brittain, Eli Brittain, Taylor Corley, Alyssa Corley, Cory Butler, Hunter Butler and great-great grandson, Cooper Hyden.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Earl Butler; her son, William Kenneth "Bill" Butler; brothers, Gerald Tatom and Cecil C. Tatom; and sister, Opal Tatom Lee Brown.

    Visitation will be held Friday evening, May 5, 2017 from 5:00 '96 9:00 p.m. at Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr St., Hemphill, Texas.

    Funeral services for Mrs. Butler will be held Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in Starr Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Gravel Hill Cemetery.

    Pallbearers for Mrs. Butler are Kevin Butler, Jason Butler, Josh Bennett, Michael Butler, Kenny Butler, and Cecil Tatom. Honorary pallbearers are Douglas Brittain and Kyle Butler.

    Cecil Connaly Tatom, 72, passed away Wednesday evening in the Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital in Nacogdoches, Texas. Cecil was born on July 26, 1944, in Sabine County, to Claude Tatom and Marie Antoinette McGown Tatom. He retired as an environmental engineer and school teacher.

    He is survived by his wife Ann Tatom of Pineland, son Cecil Claude Tatom of Pineland, three daughters: Shelia Lowe, Frances Clark and husband Franklin, and April McCauley and husband Chris of Pineland, his two sisters: Nell Butler of Hemphill and Kathy Hutton and husband E.H. of Palacous, her 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

    He is preceded in death by Melanie Tatom.

    Visitation will be from 5:00PM until 9:00PM, Friday, December 16, 2016, at Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr St., Hemphill, Texas. Funeral services will be at 1:00PM, Saturday, December 17, 2016, in the Starr Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Plainview Cemetery

    In the August 15, 2018 issue of The Sabine County Reporter, in a column titled "Tales from Sabine County", his son, Cecil Claude Tatom recalled one story that was commom amongst all his father's former students, the "infamous sodiuma nd water experiment, in which he very nearly blew up the school science lab. Every person I've chatted with has had fond memories of him, and I think he's grinning broadly from the other side."
