    Larry Paul Smith, 71, of Nacogdoches, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 in Nacogdoches. He was born on December 1, 1946, in Sabine County, the son of Leroy and Sybil Smith. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Laird Funeral Home with Deacon David Darby, celebrant. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Friday, April 6, 2018 at Laird Funeral Home. A Rosary will be held at 7:00pm, following visitation on Friday, April 7, 2018.

    Larry Paul was raised in Hemphill, where he graduated high school. During his younger years, he developed a love of fast cars and spent many hours working on and even racing them. His brother, Roy Glynn and his friends would certainly attest to his fast driving and occasional "scare" while riding with him. Soon after graduation, Larry proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam war period. During this time, he was decorated with many honors, including multiple citations, bars, and badges, as well as 4 bronze stars.
    Following his service to our country, he returned to East Texas and worked at Nibco and Lone Star. He was a hard-working man who humbly provided for his family. He also loved fishing, and later, developed an enjoyment of hunting.

    In 1980, he was introduced to a sweet lady, Wanda Ferguson. The two quickly developed a strong bond and were married in 1981. The have spent the last 37 years making wonderful memories as they lived their life.

    They have traveled to multiple locations, enjoying the time spent together, as well as with their children and grandchldren. "Pappaw", as the grands called him, was their biggest fan and he and "Memaw" supported them at all the sporting events they were a part of. Larry Paul also enjoyed mowing and working in the yard.

    He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Larry was also an active member in the Knights of Columbus. His fun-loving demeanor and vibrant smile is something that will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

    Mr. Smith is survived by his loving wife, Wanda Smith of Nacogdoches; sons, Larry Jason Smith of Nacogdoches and Eddie Marshall and his wife, Brenda of Nacogdoches; daughters, Marty Aparicio and husband, Eddie of Cushing and Sheila Steinsiek and husband, Scott of Houston; grandchildren, Jami Smith of Nacogdoches, Alex Aparicio and Tony Aparicio of Cushing, Courtney Issacs and husband, Ethan of Troup and Racheal Marshall of Nacogdoches; great-grandchildren, Braydon Sneed, Kaitlyn Sneed, and Journey Durrett; brother, Roy Glynn Smith and wife, JoAnne of Hemphill; sister, Virginia Langford and husband, Walter of Nacogdoches; niece, Jessica Ann Meeks and husband, Reese of Hemphill; and nephew, Roy Michael Smith and wife, Audra of Temple.

    He is preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Sybil Smith.

    Pallbearers will be his Knights of Columbus brothers.

    Honorary pallbearers will be Cristian Castro, Travis Rambin, Jamie Lockett, David Anthony, Rex Henson and Jaime Sifuemte.
