In his autobiography, "In Search of Blue Water", he writes that he was born on his parents 154 acre homestead, delivered by Dr. C. F. Smith, his Uncle by marriage. Robert Cecil McDaniel
Robert Cecil McDaniel died on the 23rd day of November, 2005 at 90 years of age. Cecil was born on March 19, 1915 in Sabine County, Texas in the community of Six Mile. Sabine County has been the home of his ancestors since 1850 when Cecil's great grandfather settled in the community later to be known as Fairdale in the Southeastern part of Sabine County, Texas.
He entered the United States Army on May 5, 1941 and retired from service after having served in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He served in the Philippines, Okinawa, Panama, and with the Army task groups in the Marshall Islands, South Pacific, which participated in the first hydrogen bomb test. He also served six years in the Pentagon, Washington, D.C., in the Office of the Adjutant General, U.S. Army.
After retiring from the military, Cecil and his wife, Loye Winona White McDaniel, returned to Sabine County. It was during this time that Cecil's love for writing, his family and the people of Sabine County resulted in his authoring 12 books, including a book of poetry and prose, When the Moon was on the Rise, an autobiography, In Search of Blue Water, a book of short essays, Come Smile with Me, and nine historical books: Citizen-Soldiers of Sabine County, Texas 1812-1991; Sabine County, Texas: The First One-Hundred and Fifty Years 1836-1986; Hemphill High School, Sabine County, Texas: The First Seventy-Eight Years 1911-1989; The 1900 Census of Sabine County, Texas; The 1920 Census of Sabine County, Texas; and A Pictorial History of Sabine County, Texas (Vols. I, II, III, and IV).
In addition to being an author, Cecil was an artist. His paintings most often depict valleys of bluebonnets and other landscapes. Robert Cecil McDaniel was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Loye Winona White McDaniel of the Gravel Hill community near Hemphill, Texas (born October 30, 1919 - died December 4, 2002), grandson, Stephen White McDaniel, II, parents, Ruben Sim McDaniel and Winifred Caroline Broach McDaniel, and brothers, Ruben Sim (R.S.) McDaniel, Jr., Norman Broach McDaniel, and Kenneth Smith McDaniel. He is survived by his sons, Dwight Patrick McDaniel and Stephen White McDaniel, daughters-in-law, Patricia Ann Tweten McDaniel and Marcia Sue Burlison McDaniel, and grandchildren, Harper Longstreet McDaniel and Erin Colleen McDaniel.
To his family, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather, and also as an artist, poet and historian of Sabine County. "A God who formed me from the clay, Then gave to me the sweet light of day, And one faith, one hope, one soul sure, Imperfect yes, but through Him made pure." (From: When the Moon was on the Rise - "Treasures", page 98) Visitation will be from 4:00p.m. to 9:00p.m., Sunday evening, November 27th, at Starr Funeral Home, Hemphill, Texas. Clement Carlin "Mac" McDaniel Sr.
Funeral Services for Clement Carlin "Mac" McDaniel Sr., will be held at the First Baptist Church in Hemphill, Texas, Saturday, September 15, 2012, the Reverend Aaron Pardue officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Sabine County, Texas, under the direction of Starr Funeral Home.
Mr. McDaniel died September 12, 2012 at the age of 98.
Clement McDaniel, known to many as "Mac", was born in Bayou, Texas on November 3, 1913, the son of Nolan Earnest McDaniel and wife Ella Walker McDaniel. In 1933, he married Ardell Brittain, the daughter of Docia Latham Brittain Easley and Penn Brittain. They were married 73 years and had a strong, lifelong love affair, from which came five children. His beloved wife preceded him, as did two daughters, Ether Murl (Merrill) Perry and Joyce McDaniel. Surviving children and spouses are: Barbara and Wilbur Smith of Gainesville, Texas, Carlin and Mary Ann McDaniel of Hemphill, Texas, and Glen and Dee McDaniel of Lufkin, Texas. He is also survived by grandchildren Kristie Vick, John McDaniel, Casey Weghorst, Brett McDaniel, and Kyle McDaniel; and four great-grandchildren, Colter and Sarah Vick and Tatum and Hank Weghorst.
Mr. "Mac" was proud of his family, which he considered the most important thing in his life. His Christian faith and affiliation with the Baptist Church since 1946 were also important to him, guiding him through many trials and tribulations in life.
When he was 15, "Mac" left his cocoon in East Texas and joined the Citizens' Military Training Camp, where he served for four summers, earning an officer's commission in the United States Army. He went on to become what would now be called a disc jockey at Radio Station KRIC in Beaumont. In 1941, he began his career as an air traffic controller. He was very proud of his work and remembered well the many times he helped the famous and not so famous, one of the famous being then Vice-President Lyndon Johnson, as he would fly into and out of the Austin airport.
Mr. McDaniel was an avid and expert gardener, and many people were the recipients of his garden produce. He loved people, and spent a lifetime giving to others. He will be sorely missed by many.
Memorial contributions may be made to Oak Hill Cemetery Association, c/o Weldon McDaniel, P.O. Box 174, Hemphill, TX 75948.

Obituary
Zuda Lee McDaniel Tinsley 95, after a gracious journey down this last difficult portion of life's path, Zuda died on April 30, 2016 just hours after the birth of a new baby girl in the family.
Zuda was born in Yellowpine on August 14, 1920. After high school, she rode the train alone to the California/Oregon border to join her newly wedded husband, Edgar Tinsley. During their 57 years of marriage, they had two daughters.
Zuda worked for the school district in Redding, California as the manager of food services. She retired prematurely from those responsibilities to join Edgar in Alaska to manage a remote fishing lodge for many summers. Those were halcyon days for the both of them.
Zuda was preceded in death by her husband Edgar and their daughter, Sharon. She leaves her daughter, Carolyn and four beloved grandchildren, Adam, Allison, Kirsten, and Justin and their loved ones.
Son-in-law, Reverend Richard Pearson will conduct services at the graveside at Oak Hill Cemetery. Graveside will be at 2:00PM, May 7, 2016, in the Oakhill Cemetery. To all who claim a friendship or kinship, a heartfelt thanks for enriching her life.
