    Elbert P. Powell

    Elbert P. Powell, 77, of Brookeland died Wednesday, April 3, 1996.

    Powell was a native and longtime resident of the Brookeland area and a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. He worked several years with the Texas Forest Service, Temple-Inland Forest Products, and Jasper Independent School District.

    Survivors: wife, Laverne Powell of Brookeland, a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Elbert and Charlotte Powell of Missouri City; daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda Dale and Jimmy D. Martin and Linda Gale and Ron Read, all of Jasper; grandchildren, Kim Woods, Larry Read Sr., Leigh Dickerson, Jason Powell, Vanessa Powell, Duane Martin, and Derick Martin; and great-grandsons, Larry Read Jr., Jacob Woods, and Hunter Benjamin Woods.

    Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home--Jasper Chapel. Interment was at Evergreen Cemetery, Jasper.
