    Madie O. Roberts

    Madie O. Roberts, 85, of Brookeland died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at Avalon Place in Kirbyville. Mrs. Roberts was a native and longtime resident of Brookeland. She formerly owned and operated M&M Grocery. Survivors: sons, William Roberts and Gene Roberts, both of Jasper; daughters Letta Tate of Jasper and Mollie Donahoe and Bulah Donahoe, both of Brookeland; brothers, Wilburn Powell of Bronson, Hollis Powell of Pineland, and Harvey Powell of Livingston; a sister, Viola Ellis of Brookeland; and 16 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Roberts. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Stringer & Griffine Funeral Home chapel in Jasper. Interment followed at Brookeland Cemetery in Sabine County.

    Elbert P. Powell

    Elbert P. Powell, 77, of Brookeland died Wednesday, April 3, 1996.

    Powell was a native and longtime resident of the Brookeland area and a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. He worked several years with the Texas Forest Service, Temple-Inland Forest Products, and Jasper Independent School District.

    Survivors: wife, Laverne Powell of Brookeland, a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Elbert and Charlotte Powell of Missouri City; daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda Dale and Jimmy D. Martin and Linda Gale and Ron Read, all of Jasper; grandchildren, Kim Woods, Larry Read Sr., Leigh Dickerson, Jason Powell, Vanessa Powell, Duane Martin, and Derick Martin; and great-grandsons, Larry Read Jr., Jacob Woods, and Hunter Benjamin Woods.

    Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home--Jasper Chapel. Interment was at Evergreen Cemetery, Jasper.

    Funeral services for Viola Powell Ellis, 90 of Brookeland, will be 10:00am Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper, with burial to follow at Brookeland Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00pm Monday, August 13th, at the funeral home.

    Viola passed away August 11th at her residence. A native & lifelong resident of Brookeland, she enjoyed sewing, gardening and growing flowers. She loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

    Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Travis M. Ellis, Jr. of Brookeland; daughter Nora Ellis Parsons of Pineland; brother Hollis Powell of Brookeland; two grandchildren, Stacy & husband Steven, and Amanda & husband Jerry; and five great-grandchildren, Kyle, Tara, Hannah, Brodey & Brantley. Viola was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin & Molly Lowe Powell; four brothers, Elbert, Wilburn, Harvey & Lincoln; and one sister, Maddie Roberts. Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Jasper.

    Wilbern B. Powell, 80, of Bronson died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, at a Jasper Hospital.

    Powell was born March 14, 1924, and had been a longtime Bronson area resident. He was retired from the Texas Department of Transportation. Survivors: Wife, Margie Powell of Bronson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Herbert and Linda Powell of Krum and Bobby and Peggy Powell of Channelview; two brothers, Hollis Powell of Pineland and Harvey Powell of Livingston; a sister, Viola ELLIS of Brookeland; three grandchildren Patti WATSON and husband Eric of Highland Village, Chad Powell of Krum, and Rae Ann FOWLER and husband Joe of Houston; and four great-grandchildren, Madeline WATSON, Benjamin WATSON, Ty FOWLER and Peyton FOWLER.     Hollis died at Park Wood Place in Lufkin on Sunday, May 25, 2014. A native of Browndell and resident of Brookeland, Hollis retired after over 35 years in the Maintenance Department at The Texas Department of Highway and Public Transportation. A longtime member of over 50 years of The Brookeland Masonic Lodge #935, he served as its Worshipful Master for several terms. He enjoyed gardening and raising cows.
    He is the last of his immediate family, Hollis is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

    He was preceded in death by two wife's Ruth Miller Powell from 1946 to 1990 and Maurice Hanks Powell from 1991 to 2012.

    Lincoln M. Powell, 66, of Brookeland, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1997, at his residence.

    Powell, a native of Brookeland, had lived in Nederland several years before returning to Brookeland area eight years ago. He was a member of OCAW #4-228 in Pt. Neches and the Masonic Lodge.

    Survivors: wife, Juanell Powellof Brookeland, a son, Randall Powell of Nederland, a daughter, Sandra Franks of Houston; brothers, Hollis Powell of Pineland, Wilburn Powell of Bronson, and Harvey Powell of Livingston; sisters, Madie Roberts of Browndale and Viola Ellis of Brookeland; grandchildren, Angelia Choalte and Eric Ramize; and a great-grandson, Mason Choalte.

    Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec, 5, at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home --- Jasper Chapel. Interment followed at Brookeland Cemetery in Brookeland, Sabine County.
