    Notes:

    He was the son of Matej Kubicek and Katerina Jelinek. Matej immigrated in 1873, along with his wife and his siblings, Josef Kubicek, Stela Kubicek (married a Sperek), and Katerina Kubicek (married a Laurenc).

    Matej was drafted into the German army as a young man. Worked as a Mason after his military service. Mathias and Teresa had 13 children, but only seven survived and reached adulthood. Their eldest son, Josef, was born soon after their marriage, and died as an infant during their ocean voyage to the United States. He was buried at sea. Their children Lillian, Estelle, Mary, Edward, and James were all born, and died at a young age, in rural Fillmore County, Nebraska.

    Matej and Teresa were naturalized on 4 June 1878 in Fillmore County, Nebraska.

    Jimmie Emil Kubicek, one of seven children of Emil and Anna Kotas Kubicek, was born on a farm near Oak, Nebraska, on February 3, 1907. He grew up and was educated at Oak, and farmed the family farm until retiring four years ago when they moved to Davenport.
    Jimmie was married to Florence Fitzwater on December 28, 1927, at Geneva, Nebraska. Two children, Gary and Ellen, were born to this marriage.

    ARVADA, Colo. - Kara Kay Knutson, 29, of Arvada died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at her home.

    Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Alma (Neb.) United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lorri Kentner officiating. Private burial will be at Nelson (Neb.) Cemetery before the memorial service.

    Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Thursday at Banta-Torrey Funeral Home in Alma.

    She was born Feb. 4, 1981, in Hastings, Neb., to Richard and Kay (Overturf) Knutson.

    Survivors include her loving parents of Alma; sister, Beth Schweitzer and her husband, Jason, of Atlanta; nieces, Ava and Braylin Schweitzer of Atlanta; maternal grandmother, Ellen Overturf of Superior, Neb.; paternal grandfather, Meredith Knutson of Cambridge, Neb.; her aunts and uncles; eight cousins; and many, many friends.

    She was the second daughter in her family. Kara was baptized as an infant in March 1981 at the United Methodist Church in Davenport, Neb. She was later confirmed at First United Methodist Church in Alma. Kara was active in the United Methodist Church Youth Group while in high school.

    Kara attended Davenport Public School until 1990 when the family moved to Alma. Kara finished high school at Alma Public School as a member of the class of 1999. She attended Doane (Neb.) College and Colby (Kan.) Community College. She was a proud member of the Colby Community College Lady Trojan volleyball team.

    She attended Southeast Community College in Lincoln, Neb., where she received her associate science degree in surgical technology in 2004 and her associate's degree in nursing in 2006.

    Kara was employed as a home health nurse in Arvada. Kara loved being a nurse and working with all of her clients and their families. She was loved in return by all she cared for.

    Kara was involved in the MidAmerica Boston Terrier Rescue Association. Through this organization she adopted her own Boston, Lily. Lily was the light of Kara's life. Kara also loved antiques and collectables.

    Ruby Lorraine Vodicka, age 94, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2021. She was born on August 1, 1927 in Milligan, Nebraska to Fred and Anna Kubicek. She married Milo Edward Vodicka on March 13, 1948, who preceded her in death in 2008. Together they had nine children (two sets of twins).

    Ruby loved her family. She stayed at home to raise the children until her youngest started kindergarten, which then she started working at Danny Dare Sewing Factory in Syracuse. She worked for a short time at Campbell's Soup in Tecumseh, and then went to work at Pendelton Woolen Mills in Nebraska City as a utility operator and instructor.

    Ruby retired to take care of her husband when his health started to deteriorate. They spent many years living and enjoying life at Big Lake. They spent countless hours on their porch swing enjoying their lake view, and going out on the Pontoon boat. After his death, she spent her time making crafts.

    Ruby was very artistic and loved to sew and quilt. Over the years, she made numerous wedding dresses and bridesmaids dresses, afghan blankets, doilies and various other items. Through her passion for quilting, Ruby made quilts for her grandchildren and many others. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, painting and coloring, in which her talents were reflected in the countless pieces she created. She was still coloring up until her final days.

    Ruby thoroughly enjoyed life and loved everyone she met.

    Ruby is survived by her children: Sandra (Robert) Spevak, Dennis (Sandie) Vodicka, Diann (Dan) Clinkenbeard, Steven (Betty) Vodicka, Kenneth (Brenda) Vodicka, Robert (Julie) Vodicka, Donald (Denise) Vodicka, Ronald (Lori) Vodicka, David Vodicka, 30 grandchildren, 74 great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved deeply.

    She was preceded in death by her husband Milo, after 60 years of marriage; granddaughter Stacey Lynn Vodicka; parents Fred and Anna Kubicek; brother Mike Kubicek; and sisters Helen Kovanda, Mae Kotas and Alyce Janosek.

    Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 6 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Nebraska City.

    Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 5 with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Nebraska City.

    Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church.

    Betty Jean Buzek, of Milligan, was born to Henry P. Kotas and Mae Kubicek Kotas on November 22, 1929 at home in Milligan, NE. She passed away December 20, 2014 at Heritage Crossings in Geneva, NE at the age of 85 years and 28 days. She attended rural school district #5, northwest of Milligan through 8th grade, then attended Milligan High School, graduating in 1947. In July 1956, Betty began employment at Formfit Rogers in Crete, NE as a seamstress until August of 1982. In January 1983, she began working at Swingster's Apparel Marketing Industries, in Fairbury, NE until she retired. Betty was married to Merle Buzek of Milligan, NE on April 19, 1949 and to them two children were born; Marlon Ray and Deborah Jean.

    Betty was a member of the United Methodist Church of Milligan, UMW, Pythian Sisters, Milligan American Legion Post 240 Auxiliary, ZCBJ Lodge, Senior Citizens Club and Betty's Club of Nebraska. Betty enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and had God's gift for music with any instrument, especially the accordion and piano.

    She was preceded in death by her parents Henry P. and Mae Kotas, her in-laws Milo and Mildred Buzek, sister in-law Sue Kotas, and brother in-law Henry Bigelow. She is survived by her husband of 65 years Merle, brother, Reenlee Kotas of San Diego, CA, sister in-law Roma Bigelow of Milligan, NE, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Richard and Kathy Rischling of Milligan, NE, son Marlon (Judy) Buzek of Stromsburg, NE, daughter Deborah (Mike) Kassik of Milligan, NE, six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great step grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

    Memorial services will be held on Friday, December 26, 2014 at the Milligan United Methodist Church in Milligan, NE at 2:00 PM with Pastor Sandra Blumanhourst & Kim Dunker officiating the service. No visitation/cremation. Burial will be held at a later date in the Bohemian National Cemetery in Milligan, NE. Memorials are to be directed to the family for a later designation

    A family gathering with visitation for friends and relatives will be held from 5-8 pm on Thursday at Lauber-Moore Funeral Home, Friend.     Ronald R. Kubicek, 79, of Beaver Crossing, was born March 12, 1935 to Ralph and Libbie (Petracek) Kubicek and passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at Exeter Care Center. He graduated from Cordova High School with the class of 1952 and served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict. During his high school years he began a long career as a truck driver and later operated Kubicek and Sons Trucking for several years. Ron was united in marriage to Arlene Suchy on June 5, 1971 in Omaha.
    He also worked with Ricenbaw and Noler trucking companies and farmed part time. Ron served for several years on the Beaver Crossing Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of the American Legion Holmes Post #178. In his spare time he enjoyed playing cards, fishing and participating in local parades with his antique tractors.
    He is survived by his wife, Arlene Kubicek, Beaver Crossing, daughter, Ronelle (Brian) Krenke and their children Nathan and Meghan, of Waverly, son, Jason (Jody) Kubicek and their children, Libbie Kubicek, Andrew and Kayla Ostendorf, of Waco, step-children, Kim (Pete) Koehler and their children, Mary and Robert, of Highland Village, TX, Karla (Don) Wullenwaber, of Waco and their children Kacie (Isaac) Lopez of Castle Rock, CO and Tyler Wullenwaber of Lincoln, Randal (Becky) Niewedde and their children, Spencer and Mariah, of York, step-great-granddaughter, Addison, sister-in-law, Carolyn Johnson, of Waverly, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.
    He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Tom Johnson.
