  1. 1.  James Sugars McLemore was born on 23 Jul 1883 in Jackson, Madison County, Tennessee; died about 1930 in Chattanooga, Hamilton County, Tennessee; was buried in Forest Hill Cemetery Midtown, Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee.

    Notes:

    John David McLemore, a descendant of Britain Sanders McLemore, Sr., emailed in July 2010 that he had a clipping of an obituary of James Sugars McLemore. The clipping was not dated, nor did it reference the paper it was from. He indicated that "James Sugars McLemore (who was a PhD in Philosophy and a professor in Latin and Greek at the University of Virginia and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga) --- was born in Jackson, TN in 1883 but it doesn't say when he died--- I'm guessing it was around 1930 though because it says he was survived by his father [who died in 1934] and it lists his last teaching position hire date as 1928."

    His dissertation, published by the University of Virginia in 1917, was entitled "The Tradition of the Latin Accent."
