    Could Cade be a nickname for Cajabeth? Jack White emailed, in August, 2013, that he is descended from Cajabeth White, who was living in Bute Co, NC with his brother, William, as early as 1766. He had two sons, John and Robert. John White inherited land from a man named John Seagrove, whose will names John White as his nephew. It seems likely that Cajabeth's wife, Frances, was a Seagrove, but this is not proven.

    The 1771 tax list for Bute Co shows that Young McLemore, who is part of your family tree, had an overseer named John Seagrove, who appears on a number of documents with members of the McLemore family before they migrated out of Bute (later Warren) Co. I have been trying for a couple of years to piece together precisely how the Seagrove, McLemore and White families may have interacted with one another, but the Seagrove family history is as complicated as that of the Whites.

    The thing that interests me about your website is that Cajabeth White was frequently referred to in court documents as Cade, and I see in your website that two sons of Edward White (b. 1781 in Mecklenburg Co, VA) each had sons they named Cade.

    Robert Cecil McDaniel wrote that although Albert White "had little formal education, as was common with men of his generation, he was extremely shrewd, a good conversationalist, witty, and very much at home in all types of society. He farmed some, but for hte most part, he raised and traded in livestock. I doubt if there was a man in Sabine County who loved outdoors activities more than Albert."

Survivors: a son, Robert McGown Lowe of Houston; a daughter, Mary Jo Lowe of Hemphill; and a sister, Gladys Nicosia of Hemphill. Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept 2, at the chapel of Starr Funeral Home Inc in Hemphill with Bro. Fred Raney, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment followed at the Hemphill City Cemetery in Hemphill.

In his autobiography, Robert Cecil McDaniel writes that while they were stationed in San Antonio, his sister-in-law, Evilee "lived with us for a year so so, and during that time, she worked for Frost National Bank. After we left San Antonio, she worked at Fort Sam Houston as a Federal Civil Service employee. Later, and when in her early fifties, she married a Colonel Piram, a widower, who was then stationed at Fourth Army Headquarters. They were later transferred to Fort Bliss, where he retired. During the late sixties, Colonel Piram died of a heart attack while on a fishing trip int he Rocky Mountains."

    Loye McDANIEL, 83, of Hemphill died at 11:52 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at Twin Lakes Care Center in San Augustine. Mrs. McDANIEL was born Oct. 30, 1919. Survivors: husband, Cecil McDANIEL of Hemphill; two sons, Dwight McDANIEL of Houston and Stephen McDANIEL of Longview: a brother, Tommy WHITE of Gravel Hill community, Sabine county and two grandchildren.

    Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, 2005 at the chapel of Starr Funeral Home Inc. in Hemphill follwed at Oakhill Cemetery in Sabine County.

    Thomas Albert "Tommy" White Jr., 77, of Gravelhill community died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004 at Hemphill Care Center in Hemphill. Born July 1, 1927, as a son of the late Ollie Lee (CONN) and Thomas Albert White Sr., he was a lifelong resident of Sabine County and was a rancher. White was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran and a member of Littleton Fowler Masonic Lodge. Survivors; wife, Kathleen White of Gravelhill; sons, Mike White of Kileen, Drew White and wife Vickie of Gravelhill, and Kevin White of Gravehill; and grandchildren, Marty White, Amanda SMITH and husband Sgt. John SMITH, Matthew White, Dustin White, J.T. White, Christine White and Alexx White. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Gravelhill, with Bro. I.W. Ferguson and Bro. Randy Mills officiating. Interment followed at Gravelhill Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Starr Funeral Home Inc. in Hemphill.

    Dalton I. Boyd, 97, of Lufkin, formerly of Hemphill, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, October 27,2018 in Woodland Heights Medical Center in Lufkin, Texas.

    A gathering of family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr St. in Hemphill, Texas.

    Graveside services will follow beginning at 12:30 p.m. in Gravel Hill Cemetery, FM 1592, Hemphill, Texas.

    Dalton was born in Milam, Texas on August 25, 1921 to Onie Griffin Boyd and Bradford I. Boyd. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Opal; first wife, Mary Ruth Girouard Boyd and second wife, Margaret Petit Lawrence.

    He is survived wife, Rita Grimes Boyd; son, Dale Boyd and wife, Cindy, of Florida; daughter, Kay Boyd Mott and husband, Bernard, of Orangefield, Texas; grandchildren, Christopher Boyd of Denver, Colorado, Barbara Boyd Dory and husband, Justin, of Littleton, Colorado, and Stevie Dake Toth and husband, Kodie, of Bridge City, Texas; three great grandchildren; stepson, Don Grimes; step-grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; and one step great-great grandchild.

    Dalton was a member of the VFW for life in Hemphill Post 10351. He was a WWII veteran serving in the Philippines. When he returned from the war he went to work at Jefferson Chemical Company in Port Neches. While there, he helped establish the credit union and was on the board of directors for many years. He retired with 33 years of service and moved back to Hemphill.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions can be made to the Hemphill VFW, or The Elliot House in Lufkin Tx.

    Linda Boyd passed away Friday, May 29, 2015, at Sabine County Hospital after a long illness.

    Born in New Orleans, LA., on January 16, 1933. Mrs. Boyd was a long time resident of the Milam area. She was a member of Hemphill's Seventh Day Adventist Church and was a founding member.

    Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Elroy Boyd, her son, J. R, and a sister Tammy, whos lived in in CA.

    It was her desire that no service be hald for her. The Hilliard Funeral Home in Van, TX was in charge of the final arrangements.

    Arvena Powell

    Arvena Powell, 85, of Lufkin died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, at a Lufkin hospital.

    Mrs. Powell was born Aug. 7, 1923, in San Augustine County as a daughter of the late Ora Mae (Griffin) and Nelson Boyett. She was one of the organizers of Hospice in the Pines.

    Survivors: daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Grayson EVANS of Evergreen, CO, Peggy and Craig REYNOLDS of Fairhope, AL, and Penny BING of Hawkins; step-daughters and sons-in-law, Tina and Rodney LONG of Andrews and Sharla and Charles KIRKLIGHTER of Channelview; sisters, Erma HUNT of Hudson and Edna MACHANN of Zavalla; brothers, Hubert BEARD of Huntington, James BEARD of Houston, Paul BEARD of Port Arthur, Lon BEARD of Anaheim, CA, Oscar BEARD of College Station, and Raymon BEARD of Atlanta, GA; 17 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

    Clinton Buckley

    Graveside rites for Clinton Leland Buckly, 71, of Beaumont were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 1995, at Gravehill Cemetery in Sabine County. Arrangements were handled by Carroll-Wallace Funeral Home in Beaumont.

    He died Friday, Jan. 6, 1995, at a Beaumont hospital.

    Buckley, a native of Sabine County, had lived in the Beaumont area several years. He was a U.S. Marine Air Corps veteran of Workd War II and the owner/operator of Buckley's Exxon Station.

    Dwight Patrick McDaniel died on the 9th day of February, 2006 at the age of 55 in Houston, Texas. Dwight was born on June 10, 1950 at Brooke Army Hospital at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. As a son of an army officer, Dwight lived on different army bases throughout his childhood including Quarry Heights in the Panama Canal Zone and Fort Myer in Washington, D.C. After graduating from Lutcher Stark High School in Orange, Texas in 1968, Dwight attended Baylor University from 1968-69 and The University of Hawaii from 1969-70 before traveling extensively in the South Sea Islands. As part of his oceanography studies at the University of Hawaii, Dwight worked on a research ship in his Spring semester that journeyed from Hawaii to New Guinea. At the end of this voyage, Dwight remained in New Guinea and spent over three years living and working in Australia, New Zealand, New Guinea, and the Fiji Islands. It was during this time that he developed a love for mountain climbing and hiking, and worked briefly as an instructor and guide. In 1971, Dwight returned to the United States, worked for Temple Industries, Pineland, and then attended The University of Texas at Austin. Dwight's love for the outdoors and mountaineering took him to Banff, Alberta, Canada in the Spring of 1976 where he met his future wife, Patricia Ann Tweten of Leader, Saskatchewan, Canada. Dwight and Pat were married two years later on June 29, 1978 in Missoula, Montana where Dwight was attending The University of Montana. Dwight graduated from The University of Montana with a journalism degree in 1979. After graduation, he worked as a reporter for a newspaper in Lufkin, and later, for a bank in Cushing, Texas. In 1985, Dwight earned his Juris Doctorate degree from Texas Southern University, Thurgood Marshall School of Law in Houston. Dwight practiced law in Longview, Texas with his brother, Stephen White McDaniel, from 1985-90. In 1990, Dwight moved to Hemphill, Texas where he established a private law practice, served as Sabine County Attorney for a number of years, and with his brother, built a computerized title company, Toledo Bend Title. In addition to mountaineering and hiking, Dwight was interested in history and read extensively on the American Civil War. He also authored numerous short stories and a novel, and maintained a diary to his son, Harper Longstreet McDaniel, from Harper's birth until he was eight years old. Dwight Patrick McDaniel is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Tweten McDaniel; his son, Harper Longstreet McDaniel; brother, Stephen White McDaniel; sister-in-law, Marcia Sue Burlison McDaniel; and niece, Erin Colleen McDaniel. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Cecil McDaniel and Loye Winona White McDaniel; and his nephew Stephen White McDaniel, II. He will be remembered as an adventurer, scholar, and mountaineer. Dwight was by birth and nature a kind and generous husband, father, son, brother and uncle who will be truly missed by his family and all who knew him. Visitation will be from 4:00-9:00pm Sunday evening, February 12, 2006, at Starr Funeral Home, Hemphill, Texas.     J. T. was born on Nov. 14, 1990 in Lufkin and had lived near Hemphill in the Gravelhill community. He was a senior at Hemphill High School and a member of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Grevelhill.

    J. T. is survived by his father, Keven White and his wife Kimberly of Gravelhill; his mother, Charlene Howard and her husband Doug of Nacogdoches; great grandparents, Mildred and Jesse Travis of Hemphill; grandmother, Kathleen White of Gravelhill; grandparents Wendy and Kirk Travis of Richmond, VA; three sisters, Chris White and Brianna Smith of Gravelhill, and Candace Howard of Nacogdoches; and four brothers, Zachery Johnson of Beaumont, Jared, Joshua and Carl Howard, all of Nacogdoches.

    Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 28 in the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church,. Interment followed in the Gravelhill cemetery.

    Services were under the direction of Starr Funeral Home Inc. in Hemphill.
