D.R. was born on August 20, 1930 in Milam, TX, the son of Ross and Velma Boyett. D.R. graduated from Hemphill High School in Hemphill, TX. After graduation he entered the U.S. Air Force and served for three years. He always said he had the best job as he drove for the Commanding General for the 20th Air Force. After his release from the Air Force he went to work for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, KS. He worked there for 17 years and was involved in the Saturn Program. He helped build the tools they needed to work on spaceships to the moon. During this time he met Warner Von Brawn, famous German engineer. At this time he met Rosalie and married and had 4 children. Then decided to move back to East Texas.
After returning to Bronson, TX he went to work for Higginbotham A/C and Heating. His children Bryan, Becki, Rance and Kelley graduated from West Sabine High School.
A change in his life occurred and he then met Sarah and married in 1985. They have been married for 37 years. During this time he became Fire Chief of Bronson Rural VFD for 25 years. He fought many fires and served on many tragic accidents. He was very active in his community. D.R. was a member of Pineland Service Club and a lifetime member of the VFW, and served on the G-M water board and was general manager until someone was found for that position. D.R. was always wanting to help. He and Sarah opened Boyett's Plant Farm. It was a very happy time in their lives. He loved a challenge. Experimenting in growing odd and unusual plants. They got to travel and see new things and bring back to their little nursery.
When the Shuttle fell over East Texas he was very much involved in helping locate the pieces of the craft and also the deceased. He was always helping.
D.R. is survived by his wife: Sarah Boyett of Buffalo, IL; daughter: Becki (Curtis) Boyett of Ocala, FL; sons: Rance Boyett of Seoul, Korea and Kelley (Teresa) Boyett of Bronson, TX; step-children: Linda Ray, David (Darrell) Ray, Larry (Michele) Ray and Janice (Scott) Nicholls; daughter-in-law: Kathy of Charlotte, NC; sisters: Iris Mitchell of Milam, TX and Dorothy (Jim) Boyett of Houston, TX; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
