    Ruth Marchetti indicates her last name was also shown as Bernhart. Marchetti further indicates that Katherine died between 1885 and 1890, in Kansas. It appears that is incorrect. Don Staton found the following census information from 1900, showing the widowed Kate Striffler, born Jan 1818 in France, living with her daughter, Emma Willis, in Atchison, Kansas.

    May have instead been born in Canada to German-speaking parents? (Per 1900 and 1910 census responses for sons Peter Striffler and Frank Striffler)

    Not listed with her parents at the time of the 1860 census. Don Staton believes she went to Cass City around 1879 and there married C. M. Kelly. The 1880 Federal census, for the Village of Caro, Tuscola County, Michigan, has a listing for the household of C. M. KELLY, age 54, and Mary Kelly, his wife, age 36. They were both listed as born in New York. It was shown that both his parents were born in New York as well, and the place of birth of Mary's parents was shown as Germany.

    Don Staton writes that she married George Willis. After he died, she collected a Civil War pension based on his service. " During the Civil War, George signed up in Tompkins County, NY, August 16, 1862, fought with the 137th New York Infantry and was wounded at Gettysburg on July 2, 1863. After the War, George settled in Atchison County, Kansas. He died of a heart attack on March 11, 1874, and is buried in Pardee, Kansas. George's son, Clayton Willis, was raised by his grandfather, William. "

    Clear Creek items 19 FEb 1882: Mr. Geo. Bauman and family are well on their way to California by this time. We understant Mart Striffler went with them.

    Don Staton writes that Martin died in California in 1950, living in California for at least 40 years prior to his death. He had at least four children.
