Notes:

He was born, according to the ALBEMARLE PARISH REGISTER, on the "7th day of the 11th month, 1739" (February 23, 1739/40), and was baptized on the "23rd day of the 12th month, 1739" (February 23, 1739/40). (James L. McLemore, III, p. 55).

First Sheriff of Richland Co., Feb 12, 1787-89. Justice of the Peace in 1787. Inquirer and Collector of Taxes 1784-1785.

He served two hundred eighty-four days as a captain and thirty days as a commissary under Lt. Col. Taylor and Col. Sumter during 1780 and 1781. In addition, he supplied flour during 1782. He was captured at Fishing Creek, but escaped, S.C.H.& G., XXVII, 207; A.A.5124; V219. Will of Joel McLemore, Will Book "C", p. 105, Box 21, Package # 504. In The Name Of God Amen. I Joel Mclemore of Richland County & State of South Carolina, being in health of body & of Sound sence & Memory Thanks be to Almighty God for the same, but calling to mind the Mortality of my body & Knowing it is appointed unto all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will & Testament in Manner & form following. That is to say principally & first of all I give & Recommend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it and my body I recommend to the Earth to be buried at the Discretion of my Executors hereafter Named. And as touching such worldly Estate Wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life. I give devise and dispose of the same in the following Manner & Form. Imprimis, it is my desire that all my just debts be paid. Item -- I lend unto my beloved wife Elizabeth McLemore during her natural life, the plantation and house in which I now live with one seventh part of my Riverswamp plantation.

Item -- I lend unto my beloved wife Elizabeth McLemore during her Natural life, The use of my five Negroes by Name Tom, Will, Jude, young Lucy & Millie, but with this restriction that should she marry my children Shall not be constrained to pay for their board, but the profits arrising from the labour of those five Negroes Shall go towards the Support of my Children as well as herself.

Item -- I give & bequeath unto my beloved Nephew Joel McLemore Son of John McLemore Deceased (after my debts are fully paid) one horse, or Mare, to the value of Ten pound Sterling.

Item -- I give & bequeath unto my beloved Brother Burwell McLemore (after my debts are paid) thirty Silver Dollars.

Item -- I give and bequeath unto my beloved neice Elizabeth Edmunds (after my debts are paid) One cow & calf & one Sow & Piggs together with the feather bed & furniture which I have already given her before witnesses, & which she has already got in possession.

Item -- I give & bequeath unto my beloved Children John, Sarah, James, Mary, Joel & Jesse Claiborne all my Estate both real and personal to be Equally divided between them, at the discretion of my Executors as they come of Age or Marry, but with this restriction, my field Slaves not to be Sepperated, before my debts are fully paid, & I give and bequeath the Same to them & their heirs, legally begotten of their body forever.

Item -- It is my desire that if either of my children should die before they come of Age or Marry, or before they have an heir legally begotten of their body, that the Estate of the deceased should be Equally divided between the Survivors. Item it is my Desire that Each of my children Should have a Sufficient Share of Education, as Much as their interest will admit, or as much as it is thought necessary by my Executors.

Item I also lend unto my beloved wife Elizabeth McLemore During her Natural life the use of one Seventh part of my Stock and household furniture. In an April 4, 2002 email to McLemore cousin researchers, McLemore cousin Thelma Hayes provides information from the Daughters of the American Revolution's Library which genealogist James McLemore III later confirms is the "Rosetta Stone" as to the lineage of Nanny's grandfather, Joel McLemore. Both of their emails follow. The man below, Captain Joel McLemore, is Emma McLemore's (Nanny's) grandfather's grandfather - her great great grandfather. Yesterday, I received a photocopy of the following McLemore document taken from a file located at the DAR Library in Washington DC:

The McLemore Family in Richmond

Captain Joel McLemore came to South Carolina before the Revolution (his wife was Miss Wyche, the same family of Mrs. T. Taylor). He planted on the Congaree Swamp about twelve miles below Columbia. He was an officer in Colonel Taylor's command and served him all through the war. He was a brave honest and upright man. He left John, James, and Joel. John married his cousin, the Widow Patrick, sister to Claiborne Clifton. The Widow Patrick had one son Curtis Clifton, and a daughter Sarah. Curtis died unmarried; Sarah married Andrew Wallace.

Major John McLemore had by his only one wife, John and Joel and a daughter Eliza. John married a Miss McMorris who had two sons, John and Mark, and one daughter Victoria. Eliza married William Meyer, and died childless. Captain McLemore had a daughter married to William Smart who left a large family.

Captain Joel McLemore came from Virginia, a young man, about the same time that Colonel Thomas Taylor did. He was highly educated and had property. He bought lands on the Congaree River below Columbia where he lived and died. He had four children, Major John McLemore, Joel McLemore, James McLemore, and Mrs. Smart. His son Major John McLemore lived and died on the land he inherited from his father, his descendants are now three grandchildren and their families. His son Joel McLemore moved to Tennessee where he raised a large family.

McLemore genealogist James McLemore III responds to the above, also in an email of April 4, 2002:

Eureka! I think you have found the Rosetta Stone for your branch, the proof we have been looking for that your Joel (b. 1801-02) was Joel III, son of Joel Jr. and wife Temperence (Goodwyn)McLemore, and so grandson of Capt. Joel McLemore who moved from Virginia to South Carolina before the death of his father John Mackelmore in 1767 back in Virginia. Since Logan County, Tn site where Temperence and her large family are found, is immediately north of the Tennessee/Kentucky State line, I am not bothered at all by the document's reference to Tennesee rather than Kentucky as the place where he (Joel Jr, Nanny's great grandfather - note by EC) settled with his "large family," nor do I consider it a problem as to where - Tennesee or Kentucky - Joel Jr. died or whether his family's move into Kentucky came before or after his death. He left South Carolina for Tennessee, and his "large family" shows up later without him just over the line in Logan Co., and this document to me is the nail in the coffin that confirms my conclusions previously stated to y'all. I now consider the matter proved and resolved, especially because the document is a notarized copy of an 1854 statement made apparently by Capt. Joel's step-grandson-in-law, the husband of his son Major John's step-daughter, and so written by the hand of one who should have had some degree of familiarity with Major John's family and therefore presumably with Capt. Joel's family too.

What does bother me is the reference by this Andrew Wallace to Major John's "only one wife". It lists three children by her, but aside from Eliza(beth) who married William Meyer, who was probably the daughter of Cressy or Crissy Clifton Patrick (the "Widow Patrick"), daughter of his father Joel's older sister Sarah who married Thomas Clifton, the two boys had to have been born before Cressy or Crissy was widowed by her first husband Mr. Patrick and she had married Major John - or they themselves had to have married and began producing their own children while they were still pre-teen boys! The chronology just won't admit of enough time for her to have been their mother. In addition, I have other children for Capt. Joel McLemore besides the three boys and one girl mentioned by Wallace, including a possible one named Matthew who after Joel's death appears along the Georgia/South Carolina border on or near land Joel supposedly held there, and who numbered among his own descendants (like your Joel III) issue named Joel and Howell, a strong indicator of the connection.

That is why, in addition to "the Group" I have copied in Mr. Robbie Robertson (whose e-mail address is the last in the listing above). Robbie is most interested in the Clifton Family descended from Joel's sister Sarah and her son (Crissy's brother) Claiborne Clifton (I think!). But as he has done a great deal of research into both families, I hope he can help me - us - unravel some of the confusion surrounding Capt. Joel and his family in South Carolina. That is why I also begin by sending him a copy of Thelma's find for his comment as well as his valuable instruction to us all on the actual structure of Joel's family.

I therefore anxiously await his, and each of your, comments on Thelma's find and my comments above thereon.

(Research):Adam Ivey left a lengthy will in Sussex County dated 3 August 1789 and proved 7 May 1792.[327] The will left 100 acres "whereon he now lives" to son Ephraim Ivey, and 110 acres "whereon he now lives" to son Peebles Ivey. (The will mentions that the 110 acres to Peebles Ivey was the tract purchased of Joel McLEMORE less 40 acres reserved for the homeplace, meaning that it was the 1725 patent to McLEMORE while the 100 acres devised to Ephraim Ivey was the 1749 patent to McLEMORE.)

(Medical):A direct male descendant of Joel McLemore, along with two direct male descendants of his brother Burwell, were participants in the Morrison yDNA study.

The main purpose of this study was to prove that the immigrant founders of this family in America, James Macklemore and Abraham Macklemore, were brothers. If brothers, then the y-DNA of the direct male descendants of both men would match. However, instead of confirming this, it appears that we have AT LEAST two distinct yDNA groups, with three additional potential lines. The first cluster of matching yDNA has ten members, who are part of the R1b1a2 haplogroup . The R1b DNA haplogroup, is the most common in Western Europe. Two of the ten participants can trace their lines back to the immigrant Abraham Macklemore, the husband of Mary Young. Another member can trace himself back to Moses McLemore b. ca. 1738 who is thought to be a son of Wright McLemore, grandson of William Macklemore, and great-grandson of the immigrant James Macklemore. If both these members are correct in their paper trails, AND if Amos can be proven to be a great-grandson of James Macklemore, then the assumption that James and Abraham have a common paternal ancestor is correct as descendants of both men share the same yDNA. The other six members of this first cluster all have the McLemore surname, and all can trace their lineages back to McLemore men who predate the Civil War, but have not conclusively linked themselves back to either James or Abraham.

The second cluster in the study have three members to date. They are all in the E1b1 Haplogroup, which is rare in Western Europe. All of them match each other, but do not match any other McLemores yet tested. All three of these members can trace their ancestry to John Macklemore of Virginia, the husband of Faith. Two of them descend from his son Burwell, and the third from his son Joel. But, as discussed above, IF we have also proven that the immigrants Abraham and James Macklemore are brothers, then it follows that John Macklemore could not be the biological son of the immigrant James, as the yDNA of these two clusters is very different.

Our current thinking is that John was likely a son of Fortune's and a stepson of James Macklemore, who raised him as his own. Alternatively, it may still be proven that James and Abraham were not brothers. They may share the same surname, but not the same paternal ancestry. More proven descendants of James and Fortune Macklemore will need to be tested to confirm or refute either theory.

He died just about a year after his father. In 1790, James appeared as a separate entry in the first U.S. Census, apart from his father, living in Richland County with two sons over 16 and two daughters. These children were named in James' will probated August 4, 1796; sons John and Joel, and daughters Mary and Sarah, both of whom by the time of their father's death were living in Virginia (Mary, it will be recalled, was the wife of Harrison McLemore of Southhampton County). Major John McLemore was a prominent man and a wealthy man. He had a large plantation adjoining the plantation of Col. David Myers and Myers son married a daughter of Maj. McLemore. There was a murder and Maj. McLemore spent his fortune defending his life for killing Col. David Myers. From the graveyard of Col. Myers: "Col. David Myers was inhumanely murdered by John McLemore" reads part of inscription on the headstone.

John McLemore's Will was signed 25 Jan 1837, Proved 6 Feb 1837, Richland Co, SC. Named in John McLemore's Will: Cressy McLemore, wife; Eliza A. Myers, wife of William M. Myers "if she will not live any more with her husband," John McLemore, deceased son, his children and minors; Victoria Carolina McLemore, daughter of John; Marcus Cato McLemore, son of John; John McLemore, son of John Sr.; Eliza M. Melba Gene McLemore found the following petition relating to a Major John C. McLemore, but as Martha E. McLemore is the petitioner, and not Lucretia, it may not be related to the same estate:

Eldon and Ann McLemore of Derby, Kansas instead show him as dying ca 1848 in Rankin, Mississippi, and marrying Winnie Baltice, whom was said to be a full blooded Choctaw. They show John and Winnie as the parents of Wesley, Reubin, Matthew, Dorcus (m. to. Wm. Whitehead), John and Robert. They may be confusing him with Moses McLemore, who was married to Nancy (Vinnie) Batiste, believed to be a Choctaw Indian, and lived in Copiah County, Mississippi.

Ann and Eldon McLemore of Derby, Kansas show Eldon's ancestor as John McLemore, born ca 1775 in South Carolina, and as the son of Joel McLemore and Elizabeth Wyche of South Carolina. Other records, however, show that Joel and Elizabeth McLemore's son, Major John McLemore (born ca 1776), was married to Cressy McLemore [nee Lucretia Clifton]. Eldon's ancestor was instead married to a Winnie Baltice and had a large family, sons Wesley, Rueben, Matthew and John, and daughter Dorcus. Their branch of the McLemore family moved to northern Mississippi, and then onto Oklahoma. Could this actually be the John McLemore from whom Weldon descends?

Joel H. McLemore, by his last will and testament, devised and bequeathed as follows: "I give the following property to my friend, Henry Dogett, in trust, for the support and maintenance of my Daughter, Mary E. AVENT, viz; Austin, senior, Cynthia, Emannel, Daniel and Chaney, with an equal share of the proceeds of the sale of property, which I shall empower my executors to sell, with the exception of five hundred dollars, to be taken out of the part of my daughter, of the the money that may remain, after paying my just debts; the balance of my negroes, I wish to be equally divided among my wife and her child James Henry, and the one with which she is now pregnant. It is my wihd and desire that should I die shortly, that my executors sell the lots and houses I own in the town of Halifax, upon such credits as may seem to them best calculated to enhance the value of the property, together with all household and kitchen furnitre; and, at the end of the year, I wish them to sell my land, lying below the town of Halifax, and all my stock, crop and plantation utensils; the manner of selling, I leave to my extecutors; and, after the payments of my debts, the surplus, if any, I wish to be equally divided between my wife Elizabeth and her children; and the part which I design for my daughter, with the exception of five hundred dollars aforesaid, to my friend Henry Doggett, as aforesaid, in trust for the support and maintenance of my daughter, Mary E. This widow, Mary McLemore, was a South Carolinian, the daughter of James McLemore (died 1796), son of Joel MacLemore (1739/40-1795), the son of John Macklemore. She was thus probably Harrison's third cousin. She qualified on Harrison's intestate estate on July 22, 1822, with Richard Harrison and Alexander Peete as her sureties (Southampton Order Book 16, p. 19), filed her inventory and appraisal of his estate on October 21, 1822 (Southampton Order Book 16, p. 133), and won a law suit in her fiduciary capacity on the same date (October 20, 1823) as she bound out her son. It is not know with certainty if Joseph is a son or grandson. As there was an 8 year gap between he and Sarah, and as Rachel would have been age 51 at the time of this birth, it is likely that he is not their son.

Both Mary and James are noted as having attended school during the year. It appears very likely that they were the orphaned children of John and Caroline McLemore, who were residents of Logan County, Kentucky at the 1850 census, but can not be found in 1860.

Assumed to be part of the "large family" raised by Joel and Temperence McLemore based on his age and census location. Not proven.

John and Caroline and their four children can be found on the 1850 census, but as of 1860 the family is no longer together. It appears likely that John and Caroline died prior to this date, and that their children were scattered among differing families in Logan County. Hiram D, the oldest, was a boarder in the Lamb home. James H. McLemore's birth occurred in Halifax County, N. C., in 1826, and he came to Tennessee in 1844, with his mother and step-father. His own father, Joel H. McLemore, was a tailor by trade, and followed that occupation for many years. He died on a farm to which he had retired in 1835. His widow, Betsey (Pullen) McLemore, then married John Whitaker, and after coming to Tennessee died in 1858. Our subject was married February 1, 1849, to Sallie A. Whitaker, daughter James C. and Delphia (Lyon)Whitaker. She was born in North Carolina in 1828, and came to Tennessee with her parents in 1844, and is the mother of ten children: Virginia W., Richard M., James W. (who died September 13, 1858), Mary E. (who died June 11, 1886), Delphia D., Anna, Sallie H., Robert L. (who died October 14, 1867), John Pullen and Nora. Our subject lived with his father in North Carolina until the later's death. He acquired a good education, and after his mother's second marriage continued to reside with her until 1849, when he began life for himself. He purchased his present farm in 1849 and has ever since been a tiller of the soil. His farm consists of 412 acres of well improved and exceptionally fertile land in a good state of cultivation. He and his wife are church members, and he is a Mason and a stanch Democrat.

Dr. Joel McLemore, a physician of acknowledged merit in Fulton County, was born in Halifax County, N. C., June 12, 1835, and there remained until ten years of age, when he was taken by his mother to Tennessee, receiving his literary education in Waynesboro, of that State. During this time he formed a strong desire to study medicine and made the investigation of this science his chief business for a number of years. He has been practicing since 1865, and has been a successful practitioner of Fulton County ever since 1878. In October, 1855, he was married in Tennessee to Miss Harriet G. McClearen, who was born and reared in Hickman County, Middle Tenn. Her parents, John and Elzada (Adams) McClearen, were born in Northern Alabama and Bedford County, Tenn., respectively. To Dr. and Mrs. McLemore nine children have been given, seven of whom are living: John B., Joel H. (deceased), James F., William B., Albert A., Sterling P., Samuel G., an infant deceased, and Allie. During the late war the Doctor served four years in the Confederate army as major of a battalion. He is a Master Mason, a member of the Democratic party, and he and wife belong to the Methodist Protestant Church. He owns a farm of 240 acres on English Creek, about seventy-five acres of which are under cultivation. His parents, Joel and Mrs. Elizabeth (Pullen) McLemore, were born in Virginia and North Carolina in May, 1773, and 1803, respectively. The father removed to North Carolina when a young man and was married there. He was a tailor by trade, and also followed the occupation of farming, and on his extensive plantation in Halifax County employed 100 hands. He was twice married, Miss Pullen being his second wife, and by her he became the father of two sons: Joel, and James H., who lives in Wayne County., Tenn. After his demise his widow married John Whittaker, and moved to Perry County, Tenn., where she died in April, 1859. The paternal grandparents of our subject were born near London, England, and a short time prior to the Revolutionary War they emigrated to the United States and settled near Richmond, Va., where they afterward died.

If Richard was 12 to 14 (when his mother apprenticed him out in 1823), the oldest possible age at which he might logically be apprenticed, his birth date would have been, at the latest, 1810. (James L. McLemore, III, p 52).

Richard....bought 110 acres in the western part of Sussex County, near the Dinwiddie County line, from Littleton H. BROWDER by deed dated December 31, 1856, and recorded April 1, 1858 (Sussex Deed Book V, p. 645). He sold this property years later, after the Civil War, to Richard WINFIELD of Dinwiddie County, by deed (in which his wife, Mary F. McLEMORE joined) dated March 15, 1870, and recorded May 15, 1873 (Sussex Deed Book Z, p. 478). His signature was acknowledged before a Petersburg notary public indicating he may have moved there. I wrote a book entitled "The Cotton Family of Northern Virginia" Volume 4 - Elizabeth Cotton and John Batsell Family last year. Elizabeth and John Batsell's daughter, Elizabeth, was married to William Summers. Elizabeth and William Summer's daughter, Sarah Jane, married James Thomas McLemore. That correction was made in reference to that book so that other could locate James and Sarah in the 1870 census as referenced in the book. I traced James and Sarah's children for a couple of generations but no major research on the McLemore family."

Francis and Margaret were in 1870 Census, Logan Co, KY under Household of John W. Lamb and wife Mary. Lambs were neighbors to Obediah Smith (Frank's father). I believe that if Goodwin McLemore's wife was Mary Lamb -- her relatives were the neighbors to the Smith's and were the ones who took Hiram McLemore as a boarder when his parents, John and Caroline, died. Obituary:

Henry T. McLemore, son of Joel McLemore, was born in Logan County, Kentucky, August 19, 1837. He was converted at the age of 21, and joined Liberty Baptist church, same county. He married Miss Nancy B. King, daughter of John King, same county, on February 17, 1863. Ten children blessed this union, three dying in infancy. Those surviving are as follows: Miss Lucy, Statesboro, Georgia; James Stacker, Thomson, Georgia; Mrs. Jameson (Martha) Pearson, Woodburn, Kentucky; Albert King, Statesboro, Georgia; C.T., Statesboro, Ga.; Mrs Layton (Emma) Maddox, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Orville L., Statesboro, Ga.
His life was spent in the county and State of his birth, until his removal to Statesboro, Ga., January 3, 1905. He passed away on March 4, 1909. His health had been declining for about two and a half years. For about six weeks before his death he was confined to his bed, and then he passed to be with his Savior, for as he said, quoting the apostle, "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord."

During his last illness he exhibited remarkable patience in suffering, resignation to the will of his Lord, unbounded gratitude that his children were all Christians, and the tenderest solicitude in behalf of unsaved friends.

We commend the bereaved wife and children to the Great Comforter and cherish the hope to meet him in the house of many mansions.

"Starting from where we're common, Joel McLemore and Rachel Stinson had a buncha kids, your Henry and my Martha C. McLemore. Martha married Michael B. Maben (11/12/1857) and had three children: Sarah A. b1861, Margaret Elizabeth (Lizzie) b. 8/22/1864 and Ulyssus b.1869.

Lizzie Maben married Sebran A. Britt (1/11/1884) and they had 9 children. The family lived in and around 'Bucksville' KY (aka 'Gasper' - Auburn, P.O. - Route #2). Anyway, child #8 was my Grandpa - he was born 'Hubert' but everyone called him Pete. Pete married Birtie Mae Powell (Mae) and they had a handful of children, all still living. The oldest of these is my Dad, Leon. There is another tie to the McLemore family from the Britt family, too. Sebran had a younger brother named George (Washington) Britt. In 1900 he was living in the home of David J. McLemore and Eliza Hudson McLemore of Logan County as of the 1860 census. He and David J. McLemore appear to have been first cousins.

I was unable to locate him as of the 1870 census, but in 1880, he was living in the home of another first cousin, Sarah McLemore Hoskins, still in Logan County.

FindAGrave indicates he was buried in the Oaklawn Cemetery, Welsh, Jefferson Davis Parish, LA. They also show on that website that he served in "Co. F, 26 Ky Inf", which is inscribed on his headstone.

Porter Marshall shows that he was a served for the C.S.A. during the Civil War. This is NOT correct.

A descendant emailed: "John Fielding McLemore (b. 1844) was a Union Soldier, he was not part of the CSA as listed on the site. The 26th KY Infantry was Union (See Wikipedia and the National Park Service Website) Also, if you look at his grave marker it bears the emblem of the Great Seal of the United States. Last, my grandfather told me that his "grandaddy" ( John F. McLemore) served in the Union Army and "was wounded 8 times." Of course, I have no proof that he was wounded 8 times but as a boy growing up in the south, it stuck with me that one of my ancestors was a Union Soldier."

Paul Williams provided a copy of his actual death certificate from the State of Missouri. Albert A. McLemore was shown as being Male, White, Married, born Nov. 29, 1863 in Tennessee, and dying at the age of 68 years, 2 months, and 18 days. His occupation was shown as carpenter for the K. C. Railway. His father was listed as Jol McLemore, born in North Carolina, and his mother as Harriet McClearan. The informant was Mrs. Jennie McLemore of 4226 Forest----presumably his wife as this was also listed as his home address in Kansas City. His date of death was February 17, 1932, and he was buried the following day at Forest Hill Cemetery. The cause of death was chronic myocarditis due to arterio sclerosis.

Mrs. E.B. McMillin Funeral Held At Baptist Church Here Tuesday

Funeral services for Mrs. Geneva Mae McLemore McMillin, 75- year-old Welsh resident for the past 51 years, was held on Tuesday, at the First Baptist Church in Welsh at 2:30 p.m. With Rev. Mike Gilchrist, former Baptist pastor in Welsh, and Rev. Dore Langley, pastor of the Thornwell Baptist Mission, officiating . Burial followed in Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Fineral Home.

Mrs. McMillin had passed away on Monday morning September 25, 1961, at the Lake Charles Memorial Hospital at 6:15 a.m. where she had been taken from the Welsh General Hospital on Sunday.

A native of Auburn, Kentucky, she had been an active member of the Welsh community for half a century and was a devoted wife and mother.

She is survived by her husband, E.B. " Red " Mc Millin of Welsh; by two sons, Eldridge McMillin and Raymond McMillin of Welsh; by one daughter, Mrs. James ( Zeda ) Hall of Welsh; by two brothers, Guy McLemore of Welsh, and Shelby McLemore of Booneville, Indiana; by two sisters, Mrs. Rufus ( Euva ) Oliver of Welsh, and Mrs. C.M. ( Ivy ) Robertson of Beaumont, Texas.

Pallbearers were Tommy B. Jones, J.W. Kippers, John Ed Freeland, Earl D. Ship, Jr., Robert Taylor, James Epperly, Billy Loewer, and Walter Bertrand.

JENNINGS------- Funeral services for Cyrus Guy McLemore, Jr. 68, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb .14, from Miguez Funeral Home North Chapel with Jack Harris, pastor of First Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may. call at the funeral home from 4:30-10 p.m. Today, Friday , and from 8 a.m. Until time of services Saturday. Mr. Mc Lemore died at 4 a.m. today in a Jennings nursing home.

A life long resident of Jennings, he was an artist . He attended McCready Art Institute in New Orleans. He worked at the Jennings Zigler Museum and taught art classes. He was a World War II veteran.

Survivors include five sisters, Mrs. Ruth Burson of Jennings, Mrs. Annie Mae Henderson and Mrs Bettie Crowl, both of Welsh, Mrs Nobia Suckow of Phoenix, Ariz and Mrs. Jeanette Williams of Beaument, Texas and one brother, Clifford McLemore of Vinton.

Robert Lert Biggerstaff, 97, of Hemphill, Texas passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2018 in Sabine County Hospital.

Bob was born January 6, 1921 in Fort Worth, Texas to William Cale Biggerstaff and Emma Smith Biggerstaff.

He was a United States Air Force Veteran and later worked in refineries. He and his wife, Betty, attended Fairdale Baptist Church. He served on several church committees and supported several orphanage programs over the year. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Biggerstaff.

He is survived by his nephew, David Scales and wife, Linda, of Magnolia, Texas; nieces and nephews, Janet and Lloyd Osborn, Gail Rollins, Barbara and Coalby Brown, Billye and W. A. Scaggs, Don and Bea Biggerstaff, Jerry and Lundie Biggerstaff, James and Libby Biggerstaff; great nephews, Jeff Scales and wife, Diane and Brent Scales and wife, Amy, also of Magnolia, Texas; great-great nieces, Jessica Scales, Mikala Scales, and Rylie Scales; and great-great nephews, Brandon Scales and wife, Kirsten, Jakab Scales, and Christopher Scales, all of Magnoila, Texas and several more great, great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Biggerstaff will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2018 in Starr Funeral Home Chapel, 510 Starr St., Hemphill, Texas with Bro. Floyd Wright officiating.

Burial will follow service in Fairmount Cemetery.

John M. McLemore, age 66, of Kerrville, passed away Sunday, April 19, 1998, in a local hospital. John was born March 26, 1932, in Jennings, La. John was a resident of The Wilderness park in Kerrville. He was in law enforcement most of life until his retirement. John was privileged to head the Food Pantry at the Church of the Hills in Ingram. He was also a veteran of World War II. [SIC-his son Robert notes his father actually served during the Korean Conflict, not World War II].

He is survived by his wife, Zella, of Kerrville; three daughters, Michele Sirotnak of Grapevine, Texas, Robin Ragsdale [step-daughter] of Kerrville, and Sherry Dzirerzanski [step-daughter] of West Virginia; three sons, John Paul McLemore of Nacogdoches, Texas, Clifford McLemore of Houston, and Robert McLemore of Oklahoma City, Okla; two sisters, Madeline Curtis of Leander, Texas, and Carlena McLemore of Elkhart, Texas; two brothers, Donald McLemore of Kerrville and Jerry McLemore of Elkhart, Texas; ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be made to the Food Pantry at the Church of the Hills in Ingram.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 22, 1998, in the Church of the Hills in Ingram, with Rev. Rusty Maynard officiating. All arrangements are under the direction of Sizemore Funeral Home of Kerrville.
