Notes:

A 1908 graduate of Milligan High School, he went on to attend Peru State Normal College and eventually the University of Nebraska. He was a school principal and also served as County Treasurer at Geneva, Nebraska. He served in the U.S. Army during World War i. He reached the rank of Sergeant First Class. After moving to Bird City, Kansas in 1925, he founded and edited the Bird City Times Newspaper. (Milligan, p 346-347).

A 1938 graduate of Bird City High School, he later attended Colorado University. After spending several months working at a steel mil in Gary, Indiana, he enlisted in the army and served in the Signal Corps until 1946. After his army service, Donald earned his master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He was then employed by Brown Instrument Company, a subsidiary of Minneapolis-Honeywell Manufacturing.
