Imogene McDaniel Oglesbee
Imogene McDaniel Oglesbee was born in Fairdale on June 22, 1911, to William L. McDaniel and Lula Burr McDaniel. She passed away peacefully on Monday, July 7, 2008, at Colonial Pines Healthcare Center, where she had resided for more than 12 years.
Imogene grew up in the small Sabine County farming town of Fairdale and attended the Fairdale Community School. Her teen years were spent living in Silsbee with her sister Opal, where she graduated from high school and met her future husband, John Henry Oglesbee Sr.
John Sr. and Imogene were parents of two children, John Henry Oglesbee Jr. and Janell Oglesbee Watson. The family moved to San Augustine in 1940, where they became active members of First Baptist Church. John Sr., a member of the deacon body, was instrumental in the planning and construction oversight of the present sanctuary. Imogene was supportive in all endevors of the church, especially those in which her husband or children were involved. She was a GA leader during Janell's growing years. A wonderful cook, she was ready and willing to assist with church dinners and special events.
Mrs. Oglesbee loved to travel, enjoyed being around people of all ages, and always looked at life's events with a positive attitude and keen wit. She took an active part in local school and community activities over the years, often serving as a home room mother in her children's classrooms. She was a charter member of the San Augustine Garden Club.
Imogene is survived by her son, John Henry Oglesbee Jr. and wife Betty of San Augustine; daughter, Janell Oglesbee Watson and husband Charles of San Augustine; six grandchildren, Dr. John Oglesbee III and wife Sharon; Vance Oglesbee and wife Angela; Valerie Watson Stringer and husband, Mike; Chris Oglesbee and wife Gina; Van Watson and wife Karen; and Forrest Oglesbee and wife Sabrina; 10 great-grandchildren, John Oglesbee IV and wife Ellen; Joshua Oglesbee; Sara Oglesbee; Kristen Oglesbee; Zachary Watson; Anna Marie Oglesbee; Bailey Watson; Jim Oglesbee; Brittani Oglesbee; and Jackson Oglesbee; a sister, Lyndell McDaniel Jensen and husband, Soren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Imogen was preceded in death by her husband, her parents; three brothers, Leland McDaniel, Claude McDaniel, and Woodrow McDaniel; and a sister, Opal McDaniel Ellison.
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 10, 2008, at the First Baptist Church of San Augustine with Bro. Rick Russell officiating.
Interment followed at Liberty Hill Cemetery near San Augustine.

Services for Reginald Leland "Reggie" McDaniel, 79, of Lake Cherokee, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at the chapel of Rader Funeral Home in Longview. Burial will follow in Rosewood Park. The services are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
Reggie McDaniel died Friday, June 19, 2009, peacefully at his home on Lake Cherokee. A graduate of Longview High School, class of 1946, Reggie attended Kilgore College from 1946 to 1948. He then attended Stephen F. Austin State University, graduating in 1951 with a degree in forestry.
After college, Reggie enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in the 7th Armored Division, Company B, 23rd Armored Infantry Battalion during the Korean War. He received an honorable discharge in 1954.
Reggie was an established businessman who co-owned Longview Creosoting Co. with his brothers. He retired from Martin Gas Sales after many years of service. Reggie had many passions, including his love of dogs and the outdoors. He instilled a love of fishing and hunting throughout his family, and he will be greatly missed at future campfires.
Reggie was known for always enjoying life. He loved a good smoke, a cold drink of Weller and a good puzzle. He was a member in good standing of the "ol Farts Poker Club,"' and he wanted the boys to know "he was all in." He was always willing to help out those in need.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leland Tim and Anna McDaniel; and one brother, Ted McDaniel.
Reggie is survived by his loving wife, June Beckham McDaniel; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Vanessa McDaniel; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Dennis Jones; daughters, Sondra Willougby and Glenna Havard; son and daughter-in-law, David and Libby Havard; grandchildren, Leslie and Jason Hinton, Ashley and James Croswell, Leland Chance and Shannon McDaniel, Lydia Jones, and Marissa, Shelbie, Slade, Shaine, Jennifer, Jill, Carrie, Julie and Jaycee; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The caption noted that "The Oglesbee's are retired business people who are active in civic, church, historical and volunteer work. Some of their accomplishments include: Boy Scout Master, heading the Historical Foundation, Writing plays and skits and drafting applications for grants, authoring historical books, preserving the present and past in photographs, restoration projects, and preserving historical documents. All of these things have help to make San Augustine a better place to live and visit."
OBITUARY
Mr. John Oglesbee, Jr. age 83, longtime area businessman and civic leader of San Augustine, passed from this life in the early morning hours of Wednesday, August 24, 2016, in San Augustine.
John was born to Imogene (McDaniel) Oglesbee and John Oglesbee, Sr. on December 22, 1932 in Silsbee, Texas. He married the love of his life, Betty (Wood) Oglesbee on June 29, 1956, celebrating 60 years of matrimony on June 29, 2016. He was involved in Timber Management for many years, and was widely known as an author, photographer, and historian. Over the years he served in a number of leadership positions in the San Augustine and East Texas area, as President of San Augustine Rotary Club, President of San Augustine County Historical Society, member of Sons of the Republic of Texas, and Scoutmaster of San Augustine's Boy Scout Troop 267. An active member of First United Methodist Church of San Augustine, John also served as a Trustee for McMahan Chapel historic Methodist Church.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Betty Oglesbee of San Augustine, his Sons and Daughters-in-law Dr. John Henry Oglesbee , III of San Augustine and his wife, Sharon; Vance Jackson Oglesbee and his wife, Angela of Fairfield; James Christopher Oglesbee and his wife, Gina of Nacogdoches; and Forrest Edward Oglesbee and his wife, Sabrina of San Jose, California; his Grandchildren, John, IV and his wife, Ellen; Joshua and his wife, Danielle; Sara, Kristen, Anna Marie, Jim, Brittani, Jackson and Savanna Faye; Great-grandchildren Ellie Mae, Hazel, and John Henry V; Nephew Van Watson and his wife, Karen; Nieces Sheryl Jenkins and her husband, Hunter; Kathryn Williams and her husband, Kenny; Sister Janell Oglesbee Watson and her husband, Charles of San Augustine; honorary daughter Elizabeth McCauley and her husband, Larry of San Augustine.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Imogene and John Oglesbee Sr., niece Valerie Watson, nephew Marshall Boykin, Mother-in-law and Father-in-law Anna Fay and Jack Wood, Sister-in-law Leslie Wood Boykin and her husband, Eddie.
Funeral Services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, August 27, 2016 in the First United Methodist Church, 205 South Liberty Street, in San Augustine, with the Reverend Martin Doran officiating, assisted by Charles Bradberry, Alfred Broden, and Dr. John Oglesbee III. Burial will be in the Liberty Hill Cemetery in San Augustine County. Visitation will be held Friday, August 26, 2016 between the hours of 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, 316 West Columbia Street, San Augustine, Texas 75972.
