    He was born Clarence Mixon Cannon, but later changed his name to Dean Mixon Vance. His brother Billy Cannon also changed his last name to Vance, both boys wanting to make their way under their own reputation, not that of their grandfather. Bonnie Hyden indicated their older sister, Erlyne, helped them chose their new names. When he moved back to Sabine County, he started using the name Billy Cannon once again. He is listed on the SSDI as William N. CANNON.

    He was a welder for many years and a Hemphill City Policeman in his later years.

    Kendall Cannon

    James Kendall Cannon died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, at his residence in Hemphill following an illness. Kendall was born Aug. 10, 1935, and was 70 years old at the time of his death.

    He was a member of Pipefitters Local #195 before returning to Hemphill and he owned and operated Cannon's Propane Company. He also served in the U. S. Air Force during the 1950's.

    Survivors: his wife, Frances Cannon of Hemphill; three daughters, Brenda Smith of Newton, Kathy Stanley of Warren, and Peggy Cannon of Yellowpine; a sister, Erlyne Cannon of Reno, Nevada; a brother, Dean Vance of Yellowpine; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Starr Funeral Home Inc in Hemphill. Interment followed at Yellowpine Cemetery.

    Memorials may be made to Six Mile Baptist Church Building Fund at HC 53, Box 4830, Hemphill, TX 75948; or Lakes Area Hospice at P. O. Box 2086, Jasper, TX 75951.

    Services were under the direction of Starr Funeraal Home Inc. Hemphill.

    Jeffery Cannon Strickland, 66, passed away Friday afternoon in the East Texas Medical Center, Tyler, Texas. She was born in Kilgore, Texas to Jason Clark and Uni Bell Hamilton Cannon. Jeffery has lived in Hemphill all her life and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

    She is survived by her husband Joe Strickland of Hemphill, her daughter Jeannie Blue and husband John of Hemphill, Her sister Annette Conner and husband Bob of Hemphill, her grandchildren; Tyler Mosley, J.B. Mikeman, Hunter Mosley, Jalyn Mosley and great grandchild Kacelynn Fiedler. Jeffery is preceded in death by her son Jason Mosley.

    Visitation will be from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, Monday, February 22, 2016, in the Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr St., Hemphill, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, February 27, 2016, in the Starr Funeral Home Chapel.

Mikeman of Hemphill and Brendon Hight of Ford's Corner.

    Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM Thursday evening, September 20, 2012, in the Starr Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, September 21, 2012, at Starr Funeral home Chapel, with burial to follow in Goat Hill Family Cemetery.
