FUNERAL SERVICES TODAY FOR LETHA WILKINSON 99
Funeral services for 99 year old Letha Mitchell Wilkinson will be held today at 2:00 o'clock at the Liberty Hill Baptist Church.
Mrs. Wilkinson died late Monday, at the San Augustine Memorial Medical Center after suffering a heart attack 10 days before. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren celebrated her 99th birthday at her bedside on September 30.
Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. J.R. Bob Gwin, Rev. Lous Dane and her son Dr. Milton D. Wilkinson.
Burial will be in the Liberty Hill Cemetery under direction of the Wyman Roberts Funeral Home in San Augustine.
Mrs. Wilkinson was born September 30, 1897, in San Augustine County and has spent most of her life as a resident of the County. She was a daughter of the late Joe and Susan Drawhorn Mitchell. She was a homemaker and enjoyed her gift of "making things grow." She and her sister, the late Della Hines, prided themselves in their gardening success, and she was known throughout the area for her ability to memorize and recite poetry up to a few years ago.
Mrs. Wilkinson was a long time member of the Liberty Hill Baptist Church and was a member of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include daughters, Doris Jean Fuller of Geneva in Sabine County and Tommie Mae Lott Kovar of San Augustine; and son Dr. Milton D. Wilkinson of Center; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Sam Hattman, Clifford McDonald, Roger McGough, John Mitchell, Nay Smith, Rodney Horn.

Arthur Lee Mitchell, 87, longtime resident of San Augustine County, passed from this life late Friday, March 4, 2011, in San Augustine.
Mitchell was born to Jenny (Harvey) Mitchell and William Lee Mitchell on May 16, 1923, in San Augustine County. He was a television repairman, and had served in the U.S. Army/Air during World War II. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 7, in the First Baptist Church in San Augustine. Interment followed in the Macune Cemetery, in San Augustine County. Bro. Chet Hensley and Bro. Gerald Wayne Sowell officiated.
Survivors include: his wife, Maurine Mitchell of San Augustine; daughter, Sanda and her husband, Craig Akin of Tyler; grandchildren, Nicholas Akin, and Traci, Geoffrey Heath Akin; great-grandchild, Colton Akin; special friends, Becky and Randy Michalec of San Augustine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cynthia Mitchell; brothers, Andrews, Luther, Rushing, and Elbert; sisters, Evie Windham, Luverna Watson, and Lois Kendrick.

Gladys Pauline Anders Alford of San Augustine, Texas, passed away on March 8, 2012, in Marshall, Texas at the age of 97. She was born on September 27, 1914, to Price Davenport Anders and Fannie Mitchell Anders, in San Augustine, Texas. She graduated from San Augustine High School in 1933. Gladys married Felter Luther Alford on March 17, 1934.
Gladys was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church in San Augustine. She was a member of The Grand Chapter of Texas Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. She lived most of her life in San Augustine except for the past six years when she lived with her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Donald W. Alford, in Marshall Texas.
Gladys was a homemaker for most of her life and also worked as a sales clerk in a store in San Augustine for 14 years. Gladys loved nature, especially flowers and gardening. While at home, she enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She also enjoyed gospel quartet singing and began singing in her family quartet at an early age. She enjoyed meeting and fellowshipping with people throughout her life. She enjoyed traveling with her immediate family to many beautiful places in the United States including Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Atlanta, Georgia; Orlando Florida; and other places.
Gladys is survived by her son Dr. Donald W. Alford and wife Jane Beck Alford of Marshall, Texas; grandson, John Matthew Alford and wife Andrea Santmyer Alford of Sterling, Virginia; great-grandson, Noah Matthew Alford of Sterling, Virginia; brother Aubrey D. Anders and wife Billie of San Augustine; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Gladys was very proud of her grandson and granddaughter-in-law, John and Andrea Alford; and her great-grandson, Noah Matthew Alford.
Gladys is preceded in death by her husband Felter Luther Alford; son, Kenneth Earl Alford; parents Price Davenport Anders and Fannie Mitchell Anders; brothers, Samuel Jesse Anders; Annis Perry Anders; Joe Bailey Anders, and Fred Anders.

Mr. Anders died on Sunday, April 10, 2016, in Lufkin, Texas.
Anders was born June 23, 1924, in San Augustine, to Price Davenport Anders and Fannie Mitchell Anders. He was a faithful member of Holly Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Anders did seismographic work in the Clinton area for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Perry, Joe, Jess and Fred Anders; and one sister, Gladys.
He is survived by his wife, Billie Marie (Wade) Anders, of San Augustine, Texas; sons Aubrey Daniel "Danny" Anders and wife Necy, of Pollok, Texas, Robert Earl Anders, of Custer City, Price Wade Anders and wife Lisa, of Clinton; grandchildren Kathy Jo Atchley, Lewis Wade Anders, Tobias James Anders, Emily Anders DeLaFosse, Ginny Anders Tolar, Zibbe Wesley Anders, Paige Whitney Flick, Bailey Jane Johnson and Traci Rene Herndon; great-grandchildren Kelley, Brantley, Tucker, Tyson, Brooklyn, Luccasee, Dallee, Aubrey, Lidge, Levin and Caura; and one great-grandchild, Blaire.

Ruth M. Rawson
Ruth M. Rawson, 91, of San Augustine died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center in San Augustine.
Mrs. Rawson was born March 3, 1917, to J. Lon and May Mitchell in San Augustine. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene B. Rawson, Jr.; brothers, Charles Mitchell, Joe Mitchell, Edward Mitchell and Maurice Mitchell. She is survived by one brother, Howard Mitchell and his wife Rachel of San Augustine; sisters-in-law, Iris Mitchell of Milam and Martha Mitchell of Pineland; one brother-in-law, Frank Rawson and his wife, Jan of Orange, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Rawson retired from West Orange-Cove Consolidated School District in Orange, Texas, after 45 years of teaching. Her teaching career began at White Rock and Chinquapin Schools in San Augustine County. She and her husband moved to Orange in 1944 where she continued to teach in the Orange School District. Mrs. Rawson received her B.A. degree from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas, and her M.A. degree from the University of Houston where she also did graduate work. She held teachers, elementary, high school, supervisory and superintendente certificates and was a member of all state and national organizations and lifetime P.T.A. member. Mrs. Rawson also served as Orange County Supervisor for several years at Mauriceville, Orangefield, and Bridge City Schools and was instrumental in the formation of the Early Childhood and Kindergarten programs in the Orange School District. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Orange where she served as Church School Superintendent and was an Elder. She was active in the Retired Teachers Associaton and the Kiwanas Club. The Kiwanas presented her with their highest award, the George F. Hixson Award, for the work she did in that organization.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Association.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Sau Augustine with Dr. Sam Wyman officiating.

Maurice Mitchell, 76, of Milam died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at Medical Center Hospital in Nacogdoches. Mitchell was born Oct. 18, 1927, in San Augustine as a son of the late Mae (HINES) and Lon Mitchell and was a longtime resident of Beaumont before retiring to the Milam area in 1955. He was a retired officer with the Beaumont Police Department and U.S. Marshal's office and served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Hemphill, and V. F. W. Post. Survivors: wife, Iris Mitchell of Milam; son, Robert Mitchell of Lumberton; daughter, Karen Mitchell of Austin; brother, Howard Mitchell of San Augustine; sister, Ruth RAWSON of San Augustine; grandchildren, Leta, Jessica, Ross and Aaron; and great-grandchildren, Emily and Malorie. Dr. Milton Wilkinson, age 91, of Round Rock, Texas, died Sunday, March 28, 2010, at Cornerstone Hospital in Austin.
He was born October 13, 1918, to Eugene and Letha (Mitchell) Wilkinson and served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II where he retired as a First Lieutenant. He was a former State Representative where he served for two terms and also served as an International Good Will Ambassador for President Lyndon B. Johnson.
Dr. Wilkinson previously served as pastor of Aaron Place Baptist Church in San Antonio, Keatchie Baptist Church, and Delhi Baptist Church in Rosanky, Texas, and also performed missionary work in Far East Guam. He was also a Mason and Shriner for over 50 years.
In 1971 he was listed in the Community Leaders of America. He served as superintendent of Leggett Independent School District as well as high school principal in Zavalla, Texas. Dr. Wilkinson held a Bachelor of Science Degree, Doctor of Divinity Degree, and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree.
Survivors: his wife, Loretta Wilkinson of Round Rock; sons, Wayne Wilkinson and wife Julie of Ruidoso, New Mexico, George Wilkinson of Tyler, Clifton [Eugene] Wilkinson and wife Connie of Center, Nick Wilkinson of Asheville, North Carolina, and Tim [Timothy Paul] Wilkinson of Destin, Florida; sisters, Tommie Mae Lott Melton and husband Ottis of San Augustine and Doris Fuller Williams and husband Waylon of Bronson; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie [Loraine] Hope Wilkinson; and a daughter, Phyllis [Arnelle] Wilkinson Blackburn.
Funeral services are set for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 3, at Mangum Funeral Home chapel in Center with Bro. J.R. "Bob" Gwin officiating. Interment will follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery in San Augustine with military rites under the auspices of Barksdale Air Force Base.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 2, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Mangum Funeral Home.

Mrs. Tommie Lott Melton, age 96, of San Augustine, Texas, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2021, at Doctors Regional Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Mrs. Melton was born January 10, 1925, in San Augustine, Texas, to parents Eugene Wilkinson and Letha Mae (Mitchell) Wilkinson. She was a longtime faithful member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities, including youth leader. She enjoyed playing the piano and writing poetry. Mrs. Melton also held membership in the Order of the Eastern Star for a number of years.
She retired from San Augustine Elementary School as a teacher. Mrs. Melton received her bachelors degree from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. Upon retirement, she had taught over 30 years, including parochial school and the public school system.
Her survivors include her husband, Ottis Melton of San Augustine, Texas; children, Myra McGough and husband Roger McGough Sr. of Humble, Texas, Johnny Lott of San Augustine, Texas, and Jeanne McDonald of San Augustine, Texas; a sister, Doris Williams of Magnolia, Texas; 16 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.B. Lott; her parents, Eugene and Letha Wilkinson; a son, James Boyce Lott; and her brother, Milton Wilkinson.
Funeral services have been planned for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 6, 2021, at Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel with Pastor Frank Holrath officiating. Interment will follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery, located on Highway 147 North in San Augustine, Texas.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 5, 2021, at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home, located at 316 W. Columbia Street in San Augustine, Texas.

Pawnee Sykes
Funeral (services) for Pawnee Sykes, 75, of Geneva, were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 10 at Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jim Moss officiating. Burial was at the Myrtle Springs Cemetery in Geneva.
Ms. Sykes died May 7 at her residence in Geneva. She was born Feb. 14, 1924 in Sabine County to Theodore Oliver and Pearl Horne.
Mrs. Sykes operated a farming and ranching operation in Geneva. During World War II she was employed with the Aircraft Industry in California. She was also employed as an insulator with a local insulation company and was employed with Rodney Horne Independent postal transportation contractor for several years.
She was a member of Geneva Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son, Johnny Ralph Sykes of Geneva.

Johnny was well loved in the Geneva Commmunity and San Augustine, and often was found visiting on the phone. He was disabled having epilepsy and had lived with his beloved Mother, Pawnee, his entire life until she predeceased him in 1999. He attended McMahon Chapel Methodist Church in Sabine County.
He is survived by numeorus cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Pawnee (Oliver) Sykes and Johnnie Sykes.
