His registration for the draft during the First World War shows that as of June, 1917 he was a resident of Lufkin, Texas and was married with one child. He was working as a laborer in a sawmill. He was 5'11 inches tall, of medium build, and had blue eyes and light hair.

At the time of the 1920 Federal census, he was living in Dallas, Texas (Precinct 4, District 8, Sheet 16A, Stamped 181) in the lodging home of Bertha Conmart. He was shown as Male, White, age 25 and married, born in Texas with both parents born in Louisiana, and his occupation was that of a clerk for a film company. No wife or family was shown as living with him.

John Luddy Burke shows that he married Lois Christene CHAMBERS (1893-1961).
