    • They were business parters with Emily's father, Hampton Pratt for a time, but they later went into business by themselves and built the red brick building known as the Toole Mercantile. Later their twin sons, Adrain and Claude became partners. James was connected with the Moodys of Galveston in the cotton business. He farmed and also had a sawmill. His home was one fo the finest in Hemphill, and has been moved to San Augustine County by Mrs. Wade and restored among the medallion homes. It is near they Herring House, which is now owned by Ambassador Clark (White and Toole, p 80).
