- Virgie Speights writes that they were married in Pine Hill by Brother Marshburn. They went to Beaumont in 1935 and operated a cafe there until 1937. After that, they came back to Hemphill, and operated Carter's Cafe on the square until 1948, when they built there own building two blocks off the square on Highway 87 which the operated until 1957 when Mrs. Carter died.
