    Notes
    • Bonnie Sue Duck, 67, of Hemphill, Texas passed away Monday, August 30, 2021 at Woodland Heights Hospital in Lufkin, Texas.

Bonnie was born in Port Arthur, Texas on November 9, 1953 to Murphy Ray Hunt and Margaret Mary Cappel. She had lived in Sabine County since 2013, having previously resided in Port Neches, Texas.

Bonnie set an example of love and kindness for anyone who walked into her life. She had a true servant's heart and gave of herself with love and devotion. She met her husband of 49 years when they were young teenagers and was devoted to him from the beginning. He was the love of her life and together they set an example of what a faithful marriage looks like for their children, grandchildren, and all others that met and loved them. She always made her children and grandchildren her priority with her true unconditional love and support.

Bonnie retired as a civilian with the US Coast Guard. Many of the Coasties that went through MSU Port Arthur still reach out to her as she was the "Mom" of the unit for many years. Most holidays you would find at least one Coastie who was unable to go home, sitting at our dining room table and there was always a trip to the unit to bring the on call person a meal and a hug.

Bonnie was the first one to not only reach out, but to step in and do when a family member, friend, or loved one needed it. Whether it was taking it upon herself to run to the store and pick up clothes and essentials for someone who lost their home or cooking a meal for a family dealing with illness or loss. You never had to ask, she was just there.

Bonnie volunteered her time, love, and skills throughout life. Most recently she was a volunteer through her church, St. Pius I Catholic Church, and through various quilting groups in the area. She enjoyed sewing and making quilts for those in need. She also enjoyed baking and giving her amazing bread, cinnamon rolls, and other treats to neighbors, family, and friends.

She enjoyed nature, hunting, and fishing. You could often times find her sitting on the front porch enjoying the peace that the view and sounds of nature bring. Meme's house has been the place all 4 grandkids love to be as often as they can be. She instilled a love for her country, the outdoors, and the Catholic faith in her children and grandchildren that will leave on for generations.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, Dwight Duck of Hemphill; son, Simon Duck and wife, January, of Kirbyville; daughter, Elizabeth Petrovich and husband, Brett, of Cypress; grandchildren, Faith, Christian, Kainan, and Isabella; and siblings, Dennis Murphy Hunt, James Hunt, Richard Hunt, Alan Hunt, Micheal Hunt, Bernard Hunt, Gene Hunt, Joseph Hunt, Katherine Chaffee, Sandra Bridges, and Ruth Kohler.

She was preceded in death by her brothers and sister, Murphy Hunt, Jr., Erney Hunt, and Margaret Taylor.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 3, 2021 at Starr Funeral Home Chapel, 510 Starr Street, Hemphill, Texas with a rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m.

A funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 4, 2021 at St. Pius I Catholic Church in Hemphill with Father Maria J. Susai Avula officiating.

Burial will follow Mass in Wood Cemetery Annex in San Augustine County with Christian Petrovich, Kainan Duck, Joe Hunt, Justin Duck, Cory Duck, Jonathan Duck, Aaron Johnson, Jonathan Stelly, and Andrew Hunt serving as pallbearers.
