    Notes
    • Her FindAGrave memorial page, created by Annette Epps Alva, links her to her father, John Hamilton McNairy (1804-1853) and notes her mother was Sarah Leatherman McNairy.

Annette adds that I have received information stating that Francis must have changed the spelling of her last name from McNairy to McNary. She is listed in the will of John McNairy as an heir.

The memorial page for her father, John Hamilton McNairy, notes that he was born to Robert and Anne Hamilton McNairy [According to a historical marker he was born in Guilford Co, NC]. His first marriage about 1827 in Tennessee was to Miss Sarah "Sallie" Leatherman, who died by 1840.

John left Giles County, Tenn. about 1836 or 1837. He is shown single with 6 children in the 1840 census of Tippah County, Miss. From there he moved to Texas. John and Susanah Runnels (1824-1893) married about 1842 in Shelby County. Susanah was the daughter of Henry H. Runnels (1795-1843) & Margaret Smith Runnels (1800-1896).

John McNairy became known as Colonel following his involvment with the Moderator and Regulator conflict in Shelby County. He was appoointed to represent the Moderators in settlement negotiations. John bought one thousand acres of land with John Thomas Collier on July 7, 1847. He was elected State Representative at the first regular election in Upshur County on August 7, 1848, and served until 1850.
