Brandon, had the following obituary posted: Funeral Services for Mrs. Helen Russell Maxey will be held at 10:00 on Friday, August 24, 2012 at Warren Meadows Funeral Home in Many, LA. Interment will follow at Bayou Scie Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 pm on Thursday, August 23, 2012. Officiating will be Rev. Nathaniel Langford. Mrs. Maxey was a member of Bayou Scie Methodist Church. Helen, affectionately called Miss Helen by family and friends, was born on December 22, 1922. She was the only child of Eddie B. and Minnie Della Russell. Since she was an only child and wanted a large family, she had four daughters during her 58 years of marriage to Ural (Billy) Maxey, who preceded her in death on December 28, 2000. Growing up she enjoyed the companionship of her parental aunts and uncles who were her approximate age. After her marriage to Billy, she claimed his seven siblings and their spouses as her own. Helen will be remembered by her many professions. She worked alongside Billy on their farm in the Belmont Community in Sabine Parish. She was a true partner assisting him with their cattle herd, poultry business and agriculture ventures. She also helped run the family store, Russell-Maxey Country Store and gas station. She served as Librarian of the Belmont Branch Public Library. Her most important profession was that of wife, mother, grandmother and friend to her neighbors. She will especially be remembered for her devotion to her special daughter, Billie Carol. She is survived by her daughters, Gloria Rains and husband Randel of Zwolle, LA; Nelda Thomas and husband Steve of Shreveport, LA; Diane Rivers and husband Mike of Stonewall, LA and Billie Carol Maxey of Many, LA; six grandchildren, Rusty Rains, Shawn Arthur, Milicent Day, Erin Zeringue, Shane Rivers and Kevin Rivers; and 14 great grandchildren.
