- Robert Donald Beckcom, 86, of Hemphill, died Tuesday evening in the V.A. Hospital in Houston, Texas. R.D. was born in Hemphill, Texas, to Willie Paul and Emma Seales Beckcom. He owned and operated Beckcom's Barber Shop in the Golden Triangle before moving back to Hemphill. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Merchant Marines, a member of the First Baptist Church and Littleton Fowler Masonic Lodge No. 305.
R.D. is survived by his wife Colleen Beckcom of Hemphill, his sons; Joel Beckcom of Mauriceville, Greg Beckcom and his wife Sylvia of Hemphill, his daughters; Donna Schrieber and her husband Carrol of Hemphill, Susan King of Hemphill, his sister Virginia Davis of Hemphill, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandson Robert Beckcom and his sister Lucy Bennefield.
Visitation will be from 5:00PM until 8:00PM, Friday, July 18, 2014, in the Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr St., Hemphill, Texas. Funeral services will be at 10:00AM, Saturday, July 19, 2014, in the Starr Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Pinehill Cemetery near Hemphill.
