    • Nettie Allene Green, 83, of Woodville Texas, formerly of Ann Arbor, MI, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at the Woodville Health & Rehab Center in Woodville, Texas.

      Funeral services were held Saturday, January 3rd at 2:00 p.m. at the Ramah Baptist Church with burial in Ramah Cemetery in Tenaha, Texas. Officiating was Brother Jerry Phillips.

      Nettie was born April 13, 1925 to Ralph Eugene & Nettie Ann Cammack Green in Paxton, Texas. After graduation from Tenaha High School, she received her BS degree from Texas State College for Women in 1949 and her MA in 1960. Her long and distinguished career in education took her to Germany, Texas, Nebraska, and finally Ann Arbor, Michigan. While in Germany, she served as the principal of a U.S. Army School in Straubing, a beautiful historic town on the Danube River. She took advantage of the opportunity to travel extensively throughout Europe and the Middle East. One of her favorite memories was being baptized in the Jordan River.

      She was preceded in death by her brothers, Clarence Green and James H. Green; and sister, Nelwyn Phillips.

      She is survived by two sisters, Blanche Phillips of Woodville, TX and Esther Adams of Houston, TX; one brother, Ralph Green of Dallas, TX and fourteen nieces and nephews. She is also survived by special friends, William Malcolm, Penny Garthwaite and countless students whose lives she inspired over her long career.

      Allene "Gigi" was a lifelong educator who taught elementary, middle and high school in Ann Arbor, Michigan starting in 1962. She was known as a very loving, caring, and giving person who was highly involved with her students. She had a gift of being able to help others work through any difficult decisions. She was always able to focus on the positive in people.

      Services were under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville.
