Reba Hankla
Reba Jane Arnold Hankla, 76, of Geneva passed away Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005, at Memorial Medical Center in Lufkin after a lengthy battle with diabetes.
Her families settled in the East Texas area in the early 1800s. Reba was a great historian of Sabine and San Augustine counties.
Mrs. Hankla was born March 3, 1928, in Geneva to Dewey and Burlie McGown Arnold. She married Hiram (Coy) Hankla on March 21, 1959 (sic), at McMahan's chapel.
Reba was a lifelong Methodist and a descendant of Samuel Doak McMahan. She operated the Geneva Post Office for nearly 20 years. She was widowed early in life and lovingly raised her five children.
Her surviving children are Mary Jane Hankla Ryan and husband Bill of Houston, Martha Hankla Pitts and husband Phil of Plano, Sam A. Hankla and his wife Marilyn of Lufkin, Tina Marie Tallachi and husband Ray of Houston, and Jim Ann Hankla of Lufkin. She is also survived by a brother, Thomas H. Arnold and wife Lynn of Nederland; a sister, Bonnie Blackerby and husband Frank of Milam; nine grandchildren, Michael Ryan, Patrick Ryan, Haley Pitts, Caleb Hankla and wife Amanda, Scarlett Hankla, Seth Hankla, Darien Tallachi, Janna Partin, and Colt Partin; one great-grandchild, Lexi Hankla; and sisters-in-law, Ernestine Henry of Nacogdoches, Florine Ramsey of Austin, Allen Hankla of San Augustine, and Janice Daniel of Nederland.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Hankla on May 1, 1960; parents, Burlie and Dewey Arnold, and a brother, Dewey Wilton Arnold.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel in San Augustine with the Rev. Robert Gilcrease and Richard Smith officiating. Interment followed at Myrtle Springs Cemetery in Geneva.
Arrangements were handled by Wyman Roberts Funeral Directors in San Augustine.
