    • Faye Woods Walker Faye was born Feb. 10, 1927, in San Augustine County, the eldest of two daughters born to Frank M. and Ida Hines Woods. In 1955 Faye married Harvel Gene Walker of Hemphill. Together they attended Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches where they both received degrees in education. During her thirty-two years in education, her positive influence made a profound impact on generations that is still felt today. Faye is survived by her son, William Walker and his wife Kathy of Lufkin; two grandsons, Christopher and Zack Walker both of Lufkin; a nephew, R.J. Bohac and his wife Tiffany of Nocogdoches. Faye was God's ambassador and a channel for His love. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 6, 2012 in the Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr St., Hemphill, TX. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 7, 2012, in the First Baptist Church in Hemphill. Burial will follow in the Hemphill Cemetey.       Faye E. Woods Walker, Faye was born February 10, 1927, in San Augustine County, the eldest of two daughters born to Frank M. Woods and Ida Hines Woods.

      Faye's father died when she was nine years old, and her mother married Hoy H. Byley. The family then moved to Hemphill where Faye graduated from Hemphill High School in 1944.

      In the late 1940's, Faye attended Lilly Jolly School of Nursing in Houston, Texas. She was employed as a nurse for several years. She worked for Dr. Charles Coussons in the clinic in Hemphill and in the Nacogdoches office after he moved his practice there. She also worked for Dr. Rice and Dr. Grover C. Winslow at the clinic in Hemphill. One of her proudest accomplishments as a nurse was helping bring children into this world, many of which carry her name today.

      In 1955 Faye married Harvel Gene Walker of Hemphill. Together they attended Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches where they both received degrees in Education. Faye was an educator at Bronson High School and Pineland Elementary before coming to Hemphill where she taught fifth grade for a number of years. She then became the school counselor, a title she held until her retirement in 1990. During her thirty two years in education, her positive influence made a profound impact on generations that is still felt today.

      Faye is survived by her son, William Walker and his wife, Kathy of Lufkin; two grandsons, Christopher Aaron Walker and Zachary Kyle Walker, also of Lufkin; a nephew, R. J. Bohac and his wife, Tiffany of Nacogdoches; a brother-in-law, Trent Walker and his wife, Charlotte "Babe" of Diboll; sister-in-laws Mary Francis "Fritz" Sedwick of Corpus Christi and Nell Walker of Hemphill; also, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends.Faye was preceded in death by her husband, Harvel Gene Walker; her Father, Frank M. Woods, her Step-Father Hoy H. Byley, her mother, Ida Hines Woods Byley and by her beloved sister, Ouida Woods Bohac.
      She was God's ambassador and a channel for his love.

      Visitation will be from 5:00pm until 7:00pm, Friday, July 6, 2012, in the Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr St., Hemphill, TX. Funeral services will be at 10:00am, Saturday, July 7, 2012, in the First Baptist Church in Hemphill. Burial will follow in the Hemphill Cemetery.
