    • Volume 13 of the STRIFFLER-BENKELMAN BROADCAST, published on September 4, 1950, reported that Doris Southworth, a granddaughter of Mrs. William D. Striffler, had graduated from Elkton High School.

      An article from the Cass City Chronicle published in June 1950, and reprinted in "Down Memory Lane" on page three of the Friday, June 8, 155 issue, stated that Mrs. Wm. D. Stiffler, who was 80 years old last September, had four granchildren graduate from High School in June, 1950. They were Joyce Fry of Cass City, Doris Southworth of Elkton, Marjorie Orr of Pigeon, and Foster Striffler of New Baltimore

      Doris J. Leipprandt, 82 of Caseville, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at home.

      Doris June Southworth was born in Elkton on June 3, 1932, and was the daughter of George and Florence (Striffler) Southworth. She graduated from Elkton High School in 1950 and attended St. Clair Community College. She was united in marriage to D. Charles Leipprandt at St. Paul's Evangelical United Brethren Church, Elkton, on April 13, 1951. Chuck preceded her in death on April 18, 2015.

      In addition to being a homemaker throughout her lifetime, Doris worked for three years at Thumb National Bank in Pigeon. She was an active member of Hayes United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, was a delegate to the Annual Church Conference, and was active with the United Methodist Women. Having a great interest in children and youth, Doris served on both the district and local level as youth counselor. Doris led youth mission, camping, canoeing and ski trips. She also served two stints as Girl Scout leader.

      Active for nine years on the Huron County Social Services Board (Family Independence Agency), she was also president of the District Board and served on the Michigan County Social Services Association. She was active on the Board of Directors for the Huron County Medical Care Facility when the first addition was built. Doris was also a member of the Pigeon District Library Board, the Pigeon Worthwhile Club, and Farm Bureau Lucky 50.

      Her survivors include four children, Janice (Donald) Hall of Trussville, Alabama, Timothy (Debra) Leipprandt of Elkton, Philip (Sherry) Leipprandt of Sand Point, and Julee (Jeffrey) Lockard of Winfield, Illinois; honorary son and former exchange student, Felipe Uribe (Tatiana, Samuel, Emilio); grandchildren: Jeffery Hall, Timothy (Stacey) Hall, Stephanie (Michael) Ouellette, Rebecca Gettel, Nicole (Luc) Bergsma, Ashley Leipprandt, Dr. Philip (Tabatha) Leipprandt, Christopher (Kimberly) Leipprandt, Cody Leipprandt, Jakob Lockard, Jonah Lockard, and Joshua Lockard; and great-grandchildren: Ana, Collin, Aidan, Austin, Elle, Jax, Sophia, Charlie, Luke, Logan, Keaton, Bryce, Abbie, and Eli Dewitt. Doris is also survived by her sister, Dorothy (Ray) Wakefield of Adrian; brother, Duane (Celia) Southworth of Flint; sister-in-law, Bette (Scottie) Scott of Elkton; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her husband and parents, preceding her in death were her granddaughter, Kristi Lee Leipprandt; grandson-in-law, Thomas W. Gettel; and brother, Don Southworth.

      The Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Hayes United Methodist Church, Pigeon, with Rev. Karl Zeigler officiating. Burial will be in Grandlawn Cemetery.

      Local Happenings

      Mr. and Mrs. George Southworth and two children, Donald and Dorothy, of San Luis Obispo, California, came Thursday to visit Mrs. Southworth's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.D. Striffler, at Cass City and Mr. Southworth's parents, Mrs. And Mrs. Charles Southworth, at Elkton. They expect to remain until Nov. 1.
