Three courthouse fires (Sept, 1863, Mar 1877, and Feb 1886 destroyed the earlies marriage record books. Following the 1886 fire, some pre-fire marriages were recorded on lists in the County Clerk's Office. These marriages have "//" in place of a marriage book number. The handwriting on some of these records is almost impossible to read.
