This was verified by obtaining the social security application of her son, Amos Buryle McLemore. Obituary, copied from her FindAGrave memorial page, created by Mary Jo: Published in The Alabama Courier, Athens, AL, Thursday, January 20, 1949 Mrs. J. R. McLemore, age 79, of Athens Route 5, died at her late residence on Tuesday, January 18, at 11 a.m. Brother E. F. Bullington will officiate today (Thursday) 11 a.m. from Mt. Carmel Church. Interment will follow in the City Cemetery, Spry in charge. She is survived by her husband; three sons, A. B. McLemore of Oak Ridge, Fred McLemore of Athens Route 5, and Carlos McLemore of Detroit; two daughters, Mrs. Lena Dudley of Detroit and Mrs. Louis Elledge, Tuscaloosa; 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were M. C. Nichols, Fate Ball, Clydas McLemore, Home McLemore, Louis Brooks Jr., and Melvin Cox. She was preceded in death by one son, Herbert McLemore who died October 18, 1918 in England.
