- Mark Freeman writes that "1840 Lauderdale Co., MS Census shows the Wm McLemore household to consist of 1 male under 5 (William)?, 3 males 5-10 (Richard and Wm Fortson & Joseph Fortson), 1 male 10-15 (Amos), Wm 30-40, 1 female under 5 (Sarah A Fortson) 1 female 5-10 (Francis), 1 female 10-15 ?(Rebecca), 1 female 30-40 Mrs. Mary Fortson now McLemore. William seems to have temporarily left the children after Martha's death and then re-assembled the family when he married Mary Alford."
