    • Carl Eugene McLemore Sr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Pointe Coupee General Hospital, New Roads, on Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at age 92. A resident of Morganza and native of Crisp, Texas, he was born Dec. 20, 1916, to Felix Delbert McLemore and Anna Elizabeth Rhodes McLemore. On Sept. 11, 1939, he married the love of his life, Marie Ella Crochet, in Morganza. Married for 69 years, they raised four children making sure they all received college educations. For many years they traveled and lived wherever his work took them but they always returned to Morganza, the place that brought them together.

      Mr. Carl worked for Atlas Construction for more than 45 years. He came to Morganza in the late 1930s to work on the Morganza Spillway and over the years, traveled throughout Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Missouri and Texas while working on many projects for Atlas Construction. This company was instrumental in construction projects in the Atchafalaya Basin where Interstate 10 runs. Mr. Carl worked many years on these projects. Starting out as a laborer, through hard work he eventually retired as a superintendent who was respected by his co-workers. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, gardening, restoring old automobiles and repairing mowers and tillers. A loving father and husband, he especially enjoyed the meals and desserts prepared by his wife and the occasions when his family gathered together.

      He is survived by two daughters, Margaret and her husband, John LeCoq Sr., of Mobile, Ala., and Beth and her husband, Murry Watson, of Baton Rouge; and two sons, Dr. Carl and his wife, Karen, of New Roads, and John and his wife, Kristy, of Eunice. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Lynn Cooper and her husband, Curt, of Houston, Dr. Susan LeCoq, of Anniston, Ala., John LeCoq Jr. and his wife, JoAnn, of Mobile, Andrew McLemore and his wife, Carrie, of Baton Rouge, Dr. Aaron McLemore and his wife, Dr. Elizabeth, of Richmond, Va., Bobby McLemore, of New Roads, Meagan, Kate and William McLemore, all of Eunice; six great-grandchildren; a nephew, Jack McLemore and his wife, Bernice, of Vidalia; as well as numerous other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, Ella Crochet McLemore; parents, Felix Delbert McLemore and Anna Elizabeth Rhodes McLemore; six brothers, Delbert and his wife, Jimmie, John and his wife, Floy, Leon and his wife, Willie, Romie "Buster" and his wife, Lois, Walter "Bass" and his wife, Esther Fay, Roy and his wife, Gelene; and three sisters, Bessie and her husband, Judd Spurgeon, Margaret and her husband, Arlie Smith, and Hallie McLemore.

      Services will be held at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Morganza on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 11 a.m. with visitation from 10 a.m. until service time. Memorial donations may be made to Pointe Coupee Home Health, 350 Hospital Road, New Roads, LA 70760. Special thanks to the wonderful nursing staff at Pointe Coupee General Hospital, Dr. Donald Doucet, Dr. Jason Picard, Dr. Carl E. McLemore Jr. and his staff, the Council on Aging, the nurses with Pointe Coupee Home Health, especially Brenda Goode, and his sitters, Cindy Dalgo and Penny Wilcox.
