- Virgie Speight's wrote that William was a bookkeeper for Polk and Brooks in Beaumont. In 1916, he returned to Hemphill and became Sabine County Judge in 1920, a position he retained until his death in 1923.
His death certificate, an original copy of which can be viewed on FamilySearch.org, does not list his parents. It indicates the cause of death was a self inflicted gunshot wound, with apparent suicidal intent.
