    • Obituary for Patricia R. Bartels

      Patricia Ruth Bartels was born to James Albert & Sylvia Eleanor (Rischling) Hamouz on November 30, 1939 at Tobias, Nebraska. She passed away on October 14, 2024 at Cedarwood Assisted Living in Fairbury, Nebraska at the age of 84 years, 10 months, and 24 days. She was one of 2 children born in the family.

      Pat, as she was affectionately known, began her education in a country school. She graduated from Milligan High School with the class of 1957. After high school, she began employment in Lincoln, Nebraska with Farmer's Mutual Insurance Company.

      Pat was married to Gaylord Otto Bartels on April 13, 1958 and to them two children were born: Lowell & Sherrill.

      Pat and Gaylord moved to Gaylord's family farm near Tobias, Nebraska. She helped with milking dairy cows and all of the necessary farm chores. She also worked various jobs through the years including as a cook at the Western School and sewing at Kellwood's in Fairbury, Nebraska. The majority of her working years were as a bank teller at Farmers & Merchants Bank in Milligan, Nebraska and First National Bank in Fairbury, Nebraska where she finished out her working years.

      Pat had many interests including gardening, sewing, decorating cakes for many occasions, especially her family's birthdays, and canning many fruits and vegetables from her orchard and garden. She had a green thumb for growing African Violets in every color and cared for many different house plants. She also had a soft spot for stray dogs and cats, never turning one away and taking in many over the years. She was involved in the Red Hats Society, garden club, a bowling league and enjoyed playing cards. Pat was also obsessed with crafting, making many craft items and selling at different craft shows. She also enjoyed travel, going on many bus trips and plane trips near and far. Her 5 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren were called her 'littles' and she adored all of them!

      Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Gaylord Bartels; son, Lowell Bartels; brother & sister-in-law, William & Elaine Hamouz; and brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law Vernon & Letha Bartels, Everett & Iona Bartels, Leona & Martin Klawitter, Wilmer Brandt, Willard Bartels, and Lester Steinbrook.

      She is survived by her daughter, Sherrill Wolfe & husband, Dwayne of Tobias, Nebraska; grandchildren, Tyler Bartels & wife, Julie of Friend, Nebraska, Danielle Raney & husband, Ed of Wahoo, Nebraska, Shamree Baller & husband, Brett of Ithaca, Nebraska, Melanie Baptiste & husband, Deste of Gardner, Kansas, and Brent Wolfe & wife, Elissa of Tobias, Nebraska; great grandchildren Rylan, McKinley, & Brecken Bartels of Friend, Nebraska, Ezra & Kizer Weaver and Gabriella & Karina Raney all of Wahoo, Nebraska, Shaelyn, Rylee, Ava, & Kade Baller of Ithaca, Nebraska, Soraya & Ottrelli Baptiste of Gardner, Kansas; Layne & Dalton Wolfe of Tobias, Nebraska; nephew, Mark Hamouz of Denver, Colorado; nieces, Janice Fultz of Oklahoma and Sharon Peterson of New Mexico; sisters-in-law, Donna Steinbrook of Tobias, Nebraska, Dorothy Brandt of Geneva, Nebraska, and Judy Bartels of Tobias, Nebraska.

      A Mass of Christian Burial for Pat will be on Friday, October 18, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tobias, Nebraska. Father Robert Barnhill will preside over the Mass.

      A Graveside Service will be in the Tobias City Cemetery following the Mass.

      Public visitation will be Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Farmer & Son Funeral Home - Kotas Chapel in Milligan, Nebraska.

      Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.
