    • Barbora and Frank left Bohemia with their five children in June, 1878. They settled in Nebraska where they were pioneer farmers in both Saline and Fillmore counties. To them were born 17 children, eight of whom survived to reach maturity. Barbora told her children and grandchildren stories about pioneer life. One of the favorite stories was about a family they knew well that lived in a home that was half dugout and half soddie. The mother made a large pot of soup for dinner. The family were seated around the table to be served, but before it could be ladled out, a snake fell threw the soddy roof and into the soup. (Milligan, pp 284 - 285).
