    • The July 8, 1945 issue of The Nebraska State Journal featured a photo of Mrs. Alfred Bartu (nee Marjorie Schmidt). The Lincoln Sunday Journal and Star, published the same day, noted that "Miss Marjorie Schmidt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Schmidt of Friend, and Alfred Bartu were married June 3 at St. John's Lutheran church in Cordova. Rev. Gerhard Mueller officiating.
