  Notes	TEC 5 US ARMY WW2 The Sabine County Reporter September 8, 1999, Page 12 Alvin "Shorty" Powell Alvin "Shorty" Powell, 77 of Brookeland died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, at Jasper Convalescent Center in Jasper. Powell was a native and lifelong resident of the Brookeland area. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired employee of Jasper County Precinct 1 after 36 years of service. Survivors: wife, Esther Powell of Brookeland; a son, Roy Powell of Jasper, a daughter, Carolyn Martinez of Houston; sisters, Lena Myers of Zavalla and Vina Arbuckle of Elgin, grandchildren Regina Eardley, Danny Davis, Michael Powell, Kurt Powell, and Cody Powell; and great-grandchildren, Weston Eardley, Jared Eardley, Trae Powell, and Kamryn Powell. Funeral services were held Sept. 3 at the chapel of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper. Interment followed in Remling cemetery. (Transcribed by Melinda McLemore Strong, June 2011)
