    Notes 
    • After graduating from 8th grade, Joseph remained at home to help his father on the farm. He entered the armed services on September 11, 1942 in the Field Artillery, 35th Division. He served in the European theatre, returning stateside on September 10, 1945. He contracted polio in 1949. After this, he remained on his farm, working the land and raising cattle. He was active in civic events, as well as serving on the local school board for 13 years. (Milligan, p 239).

Survivors: wife, Blanche; sons, daughtersin-law, Randy and Lana, Tobias, Larry and Adrienne, Milligan; daughter, Jo Capek, Lincoln; brother, sister-in-law, Arnold and Lucille, Milligan; sisters, brother-in-law, Rose and Ernest Hayek, Friend, Clara Tesar, Beaver Crossing; seven grandchildren.

      Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Milligan Auditorium. Kim Dunker officiating. Bohemian National Cemetery, Milligan. Visitation: beginning 1 p.m. Tuesday, Farmer and Son Funeral Home-Kotas Chapel, Milligan. Memorials care of family.
