A.B. "Buford" Bennett
A.B. "Buford" Bennett, 90, of Hemphill, died at 4:34 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at Hemphill Care Center. Bennett was born Jan. 5, 1913, in Sabine County as a son of the late Tony Chester and Emily Lillian (Denby) Bennett and was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a poultry and cattle farmer and a member of the Littleton Fowler Masonic Lodge #305. He was also a deacon at East Mayfield Baptist Church. Survivors: wife, Allie Bell Bennett of Hemphill; sons Gerald Bennett of Greenville, South Carolina, and David Bennett of Beaumont; a daughter, Juanice ROWLAND of Beaumont; step-daughters, Peggy METZ of Silsbee, and Wilma Jean WILLIAMS and Sussan EZERNACK, both of Pineland; 11 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Starr Funeral Home Inc. in Hemphill with Bro. Vernon Watts and Bro. Homer Williams officiating. Interment followed at Springhill Cemetery in Sabine County.
