- The exact date of Anthony's arrival to this country is not known, but it is known that he applied for his U.S. citizenship at Red Oak, Montgomery County, Iowa on December 8, 1870. The family moved to Saline County, Nebraska, and on May 4, 1871, Anthony registered an application for a homestead. His land was the s 1/2 NW 1/4, section 30, Turkey Creek Township. He "built a house of sod thereon, 12 x 14 feet in size with two windows and one door...plowed and cultivated about 40 acres of said land and...bored a well 48 feet deep, built a stable of straw and poles and planted a small grove of forest trees. (Milligan, p 261).
