    Notes
    • The youngest son of Ralph and Mary Ella was an infant at the time of the 1900 Hopkins County, Texas census. In 1910, he was living with his father and stepmother in Roosevelt County, New Mexico. He can' t be located at the time of the 1920 census. In 1930, he was living in Toledo, Lincoln County, Oregon. His wife was listed as Fay, and was shown as being born in 1894 in Oklahoma, which would make her some five years older than him. However, the death certificate for Dorothy Fay Strong instead shows her as being born in 1903, making her four years younger than Ernest.

At one time, he was erroneously thought to have as died in California in 1965, based on the SSDI. However, that death was not for the correct Ernest Strong.

Ernest actually died at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene, Oregon, approximately three weeks after being struck by a pickup at the cross walk of Broadway and Olive on September 30, at 5:15 p.m. The actual cause of death was listed as an accident, and was due to a pulmonary embolism of both lungs.

The death certificate indicates he has moved to Eugene around 1955. His occupation was listed as Houseman at the Eugene Hotel. His place of birth was shown as Texas, and his parents were listed as Ralph and Mary Ellen Strong. The informant was his wife, Dorothy F(ay) Strong.

    • Ralph and Mary Ella (Hall) Strong were the parents of nine sons. They were married in 1878 in Hunt County, Texas. According to a transcription of Hunt County Marriages, R.B. Strong married Ella "Wall." Charles Strong examined the actual marriage certificate, and noted that the last name of the bride was clearly HALL. The compiler of "Hunt County, Texas, Marriages 1847-1911" either misread the original, or made an error while transcribing the record. The license was issued on 4 October 1877, the marriage was on 4 May 1878, and the license was filed on 21 May 1878. Ralph and Mary Ella can be found in neighboring Collin County at the time of the 1880 Federal census.

There were several other Strong bride and grooms listed in the transcription of Hunt County Marriages. R.B. Strong's marriage was the earliest however. It does not appear that any of the other Strong's were related to Ralph. Nor did there appear to be any other Strong families living in Hunt County at the time of the 1880 census,

This studio portrait has "Post Card" imprinted on its back, along with the notation "One of the Strong boys, Jack Strong's Uncle."
Through careful comparision with other family photos, as well as his recollection of his seven Great Uncle's as older men, Charles Strong believes this to be a portrait of Ernest Strong from the 1920's. Ernest was the youngest son of Ralph Strong by his first wife, Mary Ella Hall. PLEASE HELP US VERIFY OR REFUTE THIS ASSUMPTION.
