- Frances Lorene Wood, 93, of Hemphill, Texas passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at her residence.
Lorene was born in Hemphill on November 3, 1927 to Hamp Boyett and Mittie Weaver Boyett. She had lived in Beaumont where she attended Chenier Business College and earned her Associates Degree. She worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for Wood & Son Motors. She moved back to Sabine County 40 years ago and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hemphill.
Over the years, she helped to organize fundraisers for Alzheimer's Foundation of America and she helped out by volunteering at Twin Lake's Nursing Home. She loved being outdoors and working in her yard and she loved to color her "paintings".
Lorene was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Wesley Wood, Jr..
She is survived by her longtime best friend and loving companion, Bill Long of Pendleton Harbor; son, Terry Wesley Wood and wife, Cindy, of Beaumont; daughter, Robin Powell and husband, Kelly, of Sour Lake; grandchildren, Tiffany Powell and fianc?', Jody Harrison, Jason Hale, Brent Powell and wife, Andrea, Eric Powell, Megan Zimmerman and husband, William, Wesley Wood and wife, Cyrah, and Dylan Wood; and great grandchildren, Isabella, Ellie, Tracen, Layla, Kahl, Brexley, River, and Rowan.
Graveside services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 28, 2021 in Weaver Cemetery under the direction of Starr Funeral Home with Bro. Troy Richardson officiating.
Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
