  Notes	Katherine Freistat reports that "Grandpa Smith used the insurance money he received after being hurt on the job as a telephone worker to buy his mother a grocery store. The store was located on the corner of Burton and 6th Street in Orange, Texas. Grandpa Smith was sent to school in Houston at age 17, where he lived with an aunt. He was born in Brookeland, Texas in the old Smith home. This home was still standing in 1983 at the corner of Hwy 96 and Mill Creek. School Enrollment Record, Orange County, Texas 1926-1927.
