Husband of Clarissa Batey
B. 1843 Louisiana D. 1919 Missouri

Often described as the most colorful of the McLemore brothers. His self proclaimed profession was that of a professional Monte Dealer. Letters Felix and Clarissa exchanged show Felix was most often gone to Idaho or Montana prospecting for gold. From their letters, and the birth dates of their 10 children, we gather Felix was home long enough for Clarissa Isabella to become pregnant, and then he would be off again on another mining prospect.

James and Margaret's children stand behind them. Sherry's grandmother, Viola is in the center of the back row, in the white dress. Viola was an artist, and loved all things with lace and frills, and always dressed accordingly. The identity of the other children, presumably Viola's siblings, is currently unknown.

McLemore, James Knox Polk and wife, Margaret Jackson
James Knox Polk with his wife, Margaret Jackson. His descendant, Sherry Connally Murray points out the knot of hair visible on Jame's head. She writes that because this hank of hair saved his life as a young man, he forevermore refused to have it cut, wearing it pinned up to his head in a small bun. She indicated she had heard two differing versions of the story, in one it happened during the Civil War, and in the other he was coming home from a bar in Jackson. "Anyway it happened when he was a young man. He fell in the river, and was drowning. Someone reached in and grabbed a hank of hair on the top of his head and saved him. He would never allow that bit of hair to be cut again for the rest of his life. It was 3 or 4 feet long."
