    Notes:

In Kenneth Morgan's book, MORGAN'S EAST TEXAS TALES, he wrote that "Since my earliest memories, I have heard the old folks speak of "The Becky Field". (After her husband died) leaving Rebecca with five children still living at home, ranging in age from 4 to 17, and Carrol age thirty, who was crippled. With all the children pitching in, they tended the fields and raised enough produce for the family, with some left over to sell for cash money...."Aunt Becky" as she was called by friends and neighbors, ran cattle and hogs in the woods. She was a fine horsewoman, and sometimes rode with a baby on the saddle. In winter time, hogs were butchered, and the meat carried to town in the wagon, where it was peddled door to door. Becky heated big rocks ont he wood stove, wrapped them in burlap sacks, and placed them in front of the wagon to keep her feet warm on the long drive. When there was sickness or death in the community, she was always there to help in any way she could."

Her son, Albert Turner, was the informant on her death certificate.

    Notes:

Information about the Bean family was provided by Frances Martin . She reported that most of it was taken from THE CLAN McBEAN Book, Vol. III. Bean family information was also obtained through the generosity of Yolanda Pepper Miller (Ypmiller@aol.com).

Thelma Faye Cain Prince posted the following on her "John STILL family of Edgefield County, SC" website:

Bean, Alexander-deceased. Edgefield Co. Deed Book 31, p. 200, 201, 16 May 1812. Division of sale of real estate. Wife: Christiana Bean. Newton County Historical Committee, , "Glimpses of Newton County History," 1982, contains several pages of biographical information about this family as well (pp. 167-169).

It was noted that the Trout Creek Cemetery in Newton County, near the intersection of FM 1416 and Hwy 87, is the final resting place for at least six generations of this early pioneer family. Alexander Bean and his wife Christina were said to have been married, supposedly in Scotland, and came to America settling in the Ninety-Sixth District, South Carolina which would later become Edgefield District. According to census records, their children were all born in South Carolina. A copy of deed of the selling of one hundred and thirty-four acres of land in Edgefield District near Little Stephens Creek which had been inherited by Alexander and Christina's children is recorded in Deed Book 32, pp. 196-198 on March 7, 1815. Listed as present were Christina Bean and her children James, Alexander, John Elizabeth, Isabella, Sarah, Levicy adn William, then a minor.

Alexander married Christiana ??? in May 1775. Christiana was born about 1757 in Scotland; died about 1837 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
