On page 243 of the above referenced book, it is indicated that Box 71, Pack 1754 has the Wills of two separate John Porters in the same pack. The first John Porter had a wife, Mary, and brothers Hugh and Capt. Daniel Norwood Porter. His will was dated 19 Sept 1824, and prov. 6 Dec 1824.

John married Elizabeth "Betsey" Norwood. Elizabeth (daughter of Samuel Norwood and Elizabeth ???) was born after 1761; and died. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 3.  Elizabeth "Betsey" Norwood was born after 1761 (daughter of Samuel Norwood and Elizabeth ???); and died.

    Notes:

John Norwood notes her DOD as 1798. I think this is in error:

    1) Some sources show her as married in Oct. 1790, and that she was the mother of 10 children prior to her death. This would be more than a child a year. She may have been married earlier than 1790, however.

    2) Her youngest three sons, and one daughter, were born in or after 1798 according to census records.

    3) Her brother, John Norwood, died in 1798. Perhaps their records were confused.

    4. Hugh Porter was born on 12 Jun 1791 in Abbeville County, South Carolina; died on 12 Feb 1855 in Rogersville, Lauderdale County, Alabama; was buried in Portertown Cemetery, Lexington, Lauderdale County, Alabama.
