  1. 1.  Michael Alan Fuller was born on 14 May 1957 in Houston, Harris County, Texas (son of Living and Living); died on 30 Apr 1979 in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas; was buried in Rosevine Cemetery, Rosevine, Sabine County, Texas.

    Notes:

Michael was born when his father was stationed at Ellington AFB in Houston, where he served as a Liason Advisor working with the Reserve Air Crews. This group also moved cargo for the armed services throughout the US and South America.

Michael excelled in sports and hoped to become a coach after finishing college. He enlisted in the United States Air Force at the age of 18, and planned to attend college with the G.I. Bill after completing his term of service. He played on several base teams, and at Kelly AFB played softball, basketball, and football. Michael's death came without warning, following a base softbally game. He had not been sick, and at 6'2' and 180 lbs. he was the picture of health. After his death, the Baker Flight team dedicated its season to his memory, and all players wore his number on their shoulder. There was standing room only at the Rosevine Church of God for his memorial service, some of his military friends came from as far away as Idaho.

A Mike Fuller Memorial Fund was established in San Augustine to raise money for the local little league, and the ball field where Mike played his last game was named the "Mike Fuller Memorial Field."

  1. 4.  James Herman Fuller was born on 17 Dec 1903 in Rosevine, Sabine County, Texas (son of Joseph Thomas Fuller and Viola "Ola" Fullen); died on 4 Aug 1970 in San Augustine, San Augustine County, Texas; was buried on 6 Aug 1970 in Rosevine Cemetery, Rosevine, Sabine County, Texas.

    Notes:

Herman suffered from tuberculosis, and spent some time at a hospital in San Angelo when his children were still young. His wife and their eldest children, ranging in age from 14 to 10 had to bring in the crops while Herman was hospitalized. James Roland Fuller recounted that "what kept us going beyond our own best efforts was the help and encouragement of the good people of the county, especially their friends and neighbors in Rosevine, who came to help work the crops. Many of them pledged one days work each week, as needed, even while busy with their own crops. With their help and the grace of God we were able to survive."

When Herman returned, he was not able to farm. He traded his animals and equipment to a local store owner as a down payment on the store. He also was hired by the Rosevine school district to pick up and deliver students to the school. Ruth also helped at the store. As the years passed, Herman regained enough strength to operate stores and service stations throughout east and southest Texas.

[Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 9.  Viola "Ola" Fullen was born on 29 Feb 1872 in Sabine County, Texas (daughter of John W. Fullen and Jane Allen); died on 1 Mar 1907 in Sabine County, Texas; was buried in McMahan's Chapel Cemetery, Sabine County, Texas.

Her tombstone is inscribed "Resting in Heaven"

    Notes:

    Married:
J.T. Fuller and Viola Fullen were married by S.D. Harp, J.P. Beat No 6, Sabine County, Texas on May 22, 1889. A copy of their marriage certificate was filed on the 8th day of June, 1889 by W.T. Arnold, County Clerk for Sabine County.

In his "Farm Corner" column (clipping not dated), Joe Combs wrote: "Recently (I) had the pleasure of meeting Lonzo A. Fuller of Hemphill. He was at the desk of Otis A. Fullen, president of the Security State Bank. The thought occurred that changing the last letter of either name would change the name to either Fuller or Fullen. Being a little curious a few questions were asked, and it developed that Mr. Fuller and Mr. Fullen are related. "Yes," said Mr. Fullen, "we came from the same stock. In fact, Mr. Fuller's great grandfather was also my great grandfather. Right there the Fullers and the Fullens got mixed up in such a way that most of them in the Hemphill region are kinfolk." Mr. Fullen explained further that one of the families often became enamored of one of the other families, and a marriage took place. The fact that only one letter of the alphabet had to be changed to make the bride's name fit that of the groom's may or may not have had its influence upon courtships. Mr. Fuller is a builder in the Hemphill region, and also does some farming. He said that his great grandfather was somewhat of a builder also. He says the first house ever built in Sabine County that had a brick chimney was built by great grandfather Fuller sometime about 1840. "That old house just wouldn't fall down," says Mr. Fuller, "and fire finally had to get rid of it. And as proof of the quality put in brick chimneys of that day, the old chimney is still standing as a silent reminder of a day that is gone." {Note: Since John Fuller didn't move to Sabine County until 1870, it is most likely that it was Lonzo's other great grandfather John/James? Fullen who built the above mentioned house in 1840...proof that those pesky "n's" and "r's" are indeed easily confused}.

Joe and Viola Fuller had eight children before Viola died in 1907. Joe married twice more, to Blanche Birdwell (a widow with children). Blanche and Joe had two children of their own before she died. Joe's final marriage was to Alice Pointer, also a widow with children, in 1917. He and Alice were married for over 30 years until his death.

  3. 10.  Olive Robert "Bob" McCroskey was born on 12 May 1876 in Georgia (son of David Carr McCroskey, Sr. and Mary "Mollie" Susan Roberts); died on 12 Feb 1948 in Rosevine, Sabine County, Texas; was buried in Rosevine Cemetery, Rosevine, Sabine County, Texas.

    Notes:

James R. Fuller, in his autobiography, wrote that his uncle Ray McCroskey told him "that his father and two of his brother's left their hometown of Sparks, Georgia and traveled to the Chicago World Fair. On their way home, they ran out of money in Pollock, Louisiana, a booming sawmill town. They were all able to get jobs their, and settled in that area for a time. Though two of the brothers later moved to Jasper, Texas, Bob remained in Pollock a bit longer, and it was there he married Maudie Alva Roberts. "
