Family/Spouse: Thomas Jefferson Martin. Thomas (son of William Martin and Harriett ???) was born in Jan 1819 in Mississippi; died about 1904 in Texas; was buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery (aka Whitehead Cemetery or Martin-Whitehead Cemetery), Pineland, Sabine County, Texas. In Virgie Collier Speights June 11, 1964 column about Rev. and Mrs. Bob Strickland, it is noted that Bob's maternal grandparents were "Tom and Beckie (Watkins--sic) MARTIN, and they have five sons and two daughters, Frank, Case, Lip, Jimmy, Ed, Marge and Harriet Ann, his mother" (Old Timer of Sabine County, Texas, p. 54).

The 1900 census showed that Rebecca had five children, four of whom were still living. Based on both the column referenced above, and the various census enumerations from 1850 through 1880, it appears she had at least the seven children listed above, and possibly one other son that may have died relatively young, Clinton (b. 1855). Perhaps the census information could be interpreted as Rebecca had a total of nine children....five deceased and four still living (or vice versa).

3. Clinton Martin was born about 1855 in Texas; and died.
4. Lewis C. "Case" "Casey" Martin was born on 17 Feb 1857 in Texas; died on 19 May 1908; was buried in Martin Cemetery (Martin's Chapel Cemetery), Sabine County, Texas.
5. Lipscomb "Lip" Nordell Martin was born in Oct 1859 in Texas; and died.
6. Margaret "Marge" Elizabeth Martin was born on 21 Nov 1862 in Brookeland, Sabine County, Texas; died on 7 Mar 1937 in Brookeland, Sabine County, Texas; was buried in Brookeland Cemetery, Brookeland, Sabine County, Texas.
7. James "Jimmy" M. Martin was born about 1870 in Sabine County, Texas; and died.
8. Zeremiah Edward "Eddie" Martin was born on 29 Sep 1876 in Sabine County, Texas; died on 15 Mar 1926; was buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery (aka Whitehead Cemetery or Martin-Whitehead Cemetery), Pineland, Sabine County, Texas.
