Harrison "Harris" Vickers

Notes:

Harrison Vickers, Jr., b Ga. ca 1812, moved to Fla. in 1817 when his father, Harrison Sr. bought land in the township of Tallahasse, Leon County. In 1834, Harrison Vickers Jr arrived in Texas. In 1837, he m. Sarah Ann Mason, (b) in Ala. (the dtr. of James and Elizabeth Mason). Harrision Vickers Jr., referred to as Harris Vickers on his headright papers, rec'd his land from the Sabine County Land Board in 1838, at Milam, Texas. He was a member of the Sexton Masonic Lodge at Sexton, and after it was moved to Milam. He was a farmer and the family home was near the Old Vickers Cemetery in the Isla Community. His descendants still live on the land. (White and Toole, p 38).

His tombstone is inscribed "Came to Texas From Georgia 1833"

Harrison married Sarah Ann Mason about 1837. Sarah (daughter of James Mason and Elizabeth ???) was born about 1821 in Alabama; died about 1891 in Sabine County, Texas; was buried in Old Vickers Cemetery, Sabine County, Texas. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

4. Judge Joseph Jefferson Vickers was born about 1845 in Isla, Sabine County, Texas; died on 28 Feb 1895 in Isla, Sabine County, Texas; was buried in Old Vickers Cemetery, Sabine County, Texas.
5. Volney Vickers was born about 1849 in Texas; and died.
6. James Augustus "Gus" Vickers was born on 7 Jan 1852 in Texas; died on 20 Dec 1910 in Texas; was buried in Old Vickers Cemetery, Sabine County, Texas.
7. Sam Houston Vickers was born about 1855 in Texas; and died.
8. Flora Ann Vickers was born about 1858 in Texas; and died.
9. Abbie Jane Vickers was born about 1856 in Texas; and died.
10. Charles Harris "Long Charlie" Vickers was born on 30 Aug 1864 in Texas; died on 11 Feb 1930 in Sabine County, Texas; was buried in Old Vickers Cemetery, Sabine County, Texas.
